Can't play even a simple song.
It's cute but not consistent with the notes needed. You really can't play even a simple song.

Beautiful beaded rope chain, mini kalimba is playable
Personally the kalimba is a bit too thick to wear but easy to grab and play if worn for a show and playing into a microphone. Yes it is playable! It shifted a bit in pitch during travel so I am going to tune it a bit. There are 8 keys, and it has a nice tone and true sound for being a "mini". And definitely can be used for rhythm if mic'd!

Out of tune
I've bought thumb pianos before. They're a great little gift. These aren't worth giving, though. Each little bar is supposed to be one note in a scale, but there are 2 pairs of bars that play the same note. Can't even play a song on it! Junk!

little more than a toy
This Kalimba is little more than a toy. The problem with getting toy instruments for kids is that they won't learn much about music if the toy is hard to maintain or out of tune. This showed up extremely out of tune. There are plenty of tutorials online on tuning kalimbas, and I didn't expect this to be perfect, but it wasn't even close. It comes with a string with some plastic slide beads to hang it from, but unlike the photo, you actually need to use the ball chain in comes with to hook the wood to the string. At the price, it is really a toy, but I don't believe in toys that don't actually work well. It just discourages play. Not a winner.
