So anyone know how much it cost to print out a 4x6 photo more or less using this ink? (I know it probably partially depends on printer, but probably only makes a penny or two difference).

Check out Red River Paper's website - they have calculated that, at $14.99 per ink cartridge, the average cost of a 4x6 is 26 cents. They also state 5x7s are about 38 cents, 8x10s about 87.5 cents, 11x14s around $1.68... and the big guy - the 13x19 - is approx. $2.70. REMEMBER - these are ink costs only - add your paper cost, and your time. :) This being said, I've printed thousands of prints on my Pro-100 and while it's not the cheapest solution, it's eminently repeatable and the colors are magnificent on quality papers (like MOAB Slickrock Metallic Pearl 260). I shoot RAW in the AdobeRGB colorspace, convert to 16-bit TIFFs in my (Sigma) RAW Converter, and print from Photoshop CS6 using the Canon Print Studio Pro application.

How many months will the cartridges last in a printer before drying out? Expecting low volume, will they dry out before I use them up?

I know this is an old question but I wanted to throw in my two cents. I got the Pro-100 a few years ago as part of a package deal with a Canon 6D. I used the printer for a while but for various reasons after a few months it sat, unused, for a little over two years. A little under 1.5 years were on a desk but covered and a little over a year in the box. The ink cartridges were the ones received with the printer and were a little over half full (they were full carts and not demo carts like with some printers). I recently got the printer back out and set up. I anticipated at least dried ink cartridges if not clogged nozzles. What I did not expect was that the nozzles were not clogged, the ink cartridges were not dry, and the ink had not broken down. It printed as well as it did when it was brand-new. Zero prints and not powered up for over two years and it worked perfectly. I'm sure not everyone would have the same experience but that's how it worked for me.

Does anyone knows if the ink cartridges included with the printer have the same amount of ink as the one sold here?

So I got the Pro-100 printer about 2 years ago, and knowing I would print a lot, I immediately shopped for spare ink. I decided to try a generic ink refill kit, not wanting to give into Canon's notorious ink prices. (we all know they make $$$ on ink). Anyway, the original printer cartridges actually lasted a lot longer than I expected, printing whatever I wanted, in sizes of 5x7, 8x10 and quite a few 13x19. I never felt rushed. But after not using the printer few several months after a house move, several tanks were erroring as empty. I tried the refill kit. It's ink as far as I can tell from naive eyes looks legit. The problem with the generics was I had ink smears on my paper, failing Nozzle Test print pages, and mysterious spots of ink on the paper. I tried all cleanings. After getting an almost perfect test page with the generic refills, I finally I printed out a 5x7 with the generic printer. It was streaked and had ink pools on it. I gave up knowing the sloppy refills seemed to be giving out too much ink. I don't blame the ink or color qaulity, I blame the faulty cartridges that remain after refill. I threw away those cartridges and the refill ink. I bought these genuine canon cartridges which were installed in minutes. I cleaned once. Did a single perfect test sheet, and printed a perfect 5x7 minutes after install. Yes, these cartridges are expensive and I hate Canon for it. But honestly for avoiding the huge hassle of failed refills, I'll take it for the cost.
