This foldout table is setup for sitting on the floor, without chairs. The stand is surprisingly strong and puts together and takes apart easily so it can be reused a lot. It can be used on a table but it would be a bit difficult to use without removing the legs. The carrying case is very heavy, but it holds everything needed to play. It is expensive but comparable price to others complete mahjong sets.

VPH Travel Chinese Mahjong Set Ivory 144 Sheets with Rattan Box and Tablecloth (Light Blue). This is a very nice Mahjong set and I love the pretty blue color of the tiles. The thickness and printing on the tiles is excellent, too. My only complaint is that I am not a huge fan of the rattan storage design. It reminds me too much of wicker, which I worry will not hold up over time and use. It is also decidedly feminine in appearance, limiting the giftability of the game set. I will say that the game pieces all fit nicely into the container with room to spare, so you could probably store other mahjong accessories, if you decided. I think the price is a little high, but mahjong sets do tend to be an investment, so I think you will get your value!

We love to camp because of the seclusion, but I’ve been on the lookout for something other than movies to pass the time. I ran across the VPH Chinese Mahjong Set and thought this could be so much fun. I used to play it with my grandmother, but I don’t think we ever played it by the rules! The set includes 144 tiles that have all the designs needed for a traditional game of Mahjong. The tiles themselves are made of smooth, melamine plastic with a good weight to them. The design on the tiles is clear and easy to read, with distinct, contrasting colors that make it easy to differentiate between the different suits. The character design for the numbers and symbols is traditional, which is wonderful, but it’s got me researching everything Mahjong. The feature that makes this travel worthy is that the set is contained in a folding table. The tiles fit neatly inside the table and it’s so easy to carry around. The table top is felt lined to keep the tiles from sliding around. There’s a basic set of instructions included, but I found them to be somewhat brief and lacking in detail—especially for a beginner. But that’s what the Google machine is for! We’ve had a great time playing this and I know we’ll get better as we learn more. It’s been great to have another diversion while camping and I like that this is fun with just two people.

This is a nice portable set complete with table. The playing pieces appear to be good quality and pack well inside the table. The box that holds the pieces is not quality construction as you can see in the photos. The table is also not as sturdy as I hoped and, although the image in the description shows it set up on grass, I would not trust it on uneven ground.
