Treat yourself!
I’m an avid crocheter etc. fibers’ artist and have been itching to try my hand at spinning yarn. I daydream of turning my scraps back into yarn. This kit is darling and came in the cutest case; it also didn’t break the bank! I feel so thankful for the intention that went into putting this wonderful kit together, and have already spun my first little bat. If you’re considering it, please do delight yourself with this gift. My mind was wonderfully happy to be learning something new and it was joyfully meditative. (I have a lot of adjectives for this entire experience, all of them positive!)

As a beginner, I LOVE it!
I'm a beginner, and after doing some research on the supplies I needed to learn, I decided to get this kit. I debated for a few days if I should spend the extra money or just get a drop spindle for 15-20$. I'm so glad I went with this kit! I was able to start spinning right away, since it came with fiber. It came with 8 rovings of fiber, the spindle, a piece of starter yarn, a spinner's control card, a manual, & a cute little handwritten thank you card. I didn't even realize it was a small business until I saw the card, and now I'm so happy to support them! And of course, the little trunk it all comes in is super cute! The rovings are soft and the colors are BEAUTIFUL. The spindle seems to be a nice, solid wood. Nothing is loose or broken, and it spins well. I spun 2 separate rovings and then I used the spindle to ply them together into a 2-ply yarn. As you can see in the picture, there are obvious inconsistencies in the thickness of my yarn, but this is my very first time spinning. Plus, I personally love that look! I love my new yarn, I think it turned out super pretty and the colors really shine through. I can't wait to make more! I can't speak on the experience with this spindle and roving if you're not a beginner, but if you ARE a beginner or just looking for a nice kit that's affordable, GET THIS. Great job, DICHA!

A great kit, for a beginner or more experienced alike
The teaching book that comes with this is fabulous! I already know how to spin, but it has great knowledge for every step of yarn making, and cool things like Andean plying! The wool spins up easily, and the spindle is smooth to the touch and well balanced so it's nice to use. It's of a good weight to help the spin going as long as you need, with plenty of room down the shaft to wrap your yarn. The storage box it comes in is cute and fits nicely on a shelf, and you can use it to store the yarn you make after, or even the items you make from the yarn. I did encounter a problem where the bit of decoration at the bottom was a weak point to snap when I dropped the spindle on concrete, but it glued back together easily enough. That can happen with any spindle, so I don't take a star off for that. Overall, a great kit for above, especially a beginner, and worth the price considering how much wool you get and the great instructions.

Everything you need as a beginner!
After spending several hours learning to spin on this spindle, watching many many JillianEve videos, and reading from the book Respect the Spindle, I've come to truly appreciate the completeness of this little kit. Something that is mentioned in the product name, but that I overlooked, is that the drop spindle included is actually a high-low whorl spindle -- meaning you can slip a half-hitch into the groove on the end of the dowel opposite the whorl and spin with the whorl facing down. In trying both, I think I personally found myself more of a low-whorl type of spinner. If you have a lot of problems with the yarn leaping over the whorl and coming off the hook like I did (which I'm sure is more of an issue with technique and the direction I was winding on), it could be worth spinning low-whorl. Once I made the switch, I found I only dropped the spindle when my yarn started drifting due to coming unspun. After getting relatively okay with the worsted draw with the included combed top -- inchworming my way along and getting a little bit better at being consistent -- I started to wish I had a preparation from which I could try woolen draw (like rolags or bats) since worsted tends to be a little better suited for weaving and the woolen draw has the loftiness that's desirable in knit and crochet. I came across a JillianEve video on drafting from the fold and realized I could use the included combed top for a woolen draw as well! Once I got a woolen draw going and found a rhythm spinning low whorl, I was really off to the races -- starting to get comfortable with long-draw and no longer having to park and draft. My yarn is still not perfectly consistent and has that trademark homespun thick-thin sort of vibe, but it's all been perfectly usable to construct a little crochet beanie with all my little yarn skeins. Even though it's a little bit ugly since the colorways don't all go well together, I already cherish it as my first fully handspun project. I'd recommend this little kit to anyone who wants to get started spindle spinning!

I was able to use this right out of the box!
this is an amazing kit. the spindle is not too heavy and not too light, and I like how the shaft is straight up and down. it has a good size notch for the yarn. I did crazy glue the hook, which started to twist around a little bit, and now this is my favorite spindle. perfect for a beginner.

Beginner Friendly and Well Made!
This is my first spindle, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s a lot lighter than I thought it would be, but appears to be well-made. The fiber it came with is perfect for learning. I’m looking forward to getting better at spinning yarn with this.

Beautiful kit but spindle wobbles
I was so excited when I got this kit. The box is beautiful, the fibers are gorgeous colors. I was going to an outdoor weekend with girlfriends and I thought this would be something I could do while my friend was knitting. I had no access to the internet, so I was learning based on these instructions, and I hadn't watched any youtube on how to do it. I did make something... its technically yarn, but this was really hard to do with this fiber and spindle and only written instructions. I didn't have any background on plying so I was just building up this one ply yarn and not sure what to do with it when the spindle was full or how to deal with the twist. On return home I have watched numerous videos and have learned a couple things... 1) my spindle wobbles when it spins, a lot. From the first spin to the last. It should have little wobble. 2) the length of the fibers is pretty short, maybe 4 inches and this makes it really hard to draft as a newbie. If you get a kit with a better/non-wobbly spindle and you are internet-connected for tutorials I think you will have a better experience than I did. The box is beautiful and I am sure I will be able to use the fibers as I progress in the craft or loose in a weaving class I am taking.
