Great Moisture Barrier
A nurse recommended getting zinc oxide cream as part of a wound care regime that also includes regular intake of zinc supplements and vitamin C. I chose this due to the positive reviews and the price. After reading the directions, I didn’t feeling comfortable putting it directly on the wound. Instead, I put regular wound ointment on the wound and covered it with an absorbent dressing and then applied the zinc cream to the area around the wound making sure to coat the part of the dressing not in contact with the wound. This works better than I expected at keeping moisture away from the wound. The drainage from the wound, which has become very minimal, is the only moisture that is on the dressing. So except for the occasional tiny spotting from drainage, all the area of the dressing that comes in contact with the wound is pretty much dry. The area around/outside the wound where the cream is applied also remains dry and seems to have gotten softer, even with diapers getting fully soaked overnight. Will definitely be ordering again.

white, smooth, definitely a barrier, hard to wash off (which is expected)
As someone who never has skin issues and never had poison ivy, I got hit with a double whammy this relentlessly hot and extra humid summer: I got a whole body fungal/yeast infection (thankfully not the vaginal kind-- never had one of those either), but it hit me fast and furiously starting with wherever skin touched skin. THEN, I got secondary poison ivy AT THE SAME TIME from my big dogs, who were rubbing up onto a fallen tree that is covered in poison ivy. Then they rubbed up on me, their momma. OMG. Soo.. I tried to treat myself, but when I woke with swollen eyes I knew it was time to see the doc. Got a slew of prescriptions and was on my way. I had bought this zinc cream early on in the ordeal. I didnt get to use it before I needed professional help. But I did use it on my face as a sun block. I have fair skin, and I dont mind some white cast. This blends in pretty well, but it is hard to get off. I use a oil balm, massage that in, let it sit, wipe away. Do again, wipe away then follow up with a foaming wash. I probably wont use it for sun protection on my face too often, but nice to know it works. I tried it on my inner thigh/groin area, and it left me feeling moist. More slick than wet. Kinda weird. That is probably normal. Feels the same as a diaper rash cream, which I also bought. LOL. I dabbed some itchy spots with this. Not sure if was the fungal aspect or the poison ivy aspect (again, my poison ivy wasnt a direct hit, but a secondary one provided my sweet labs). Not sure what zinc is supposed to do for it, but it didnt make it any worse at least. I guess with rashes, if it is wet, use dry product. If it is dry, use a wet product. But this is a barrier cream, so I think it is probably best for proactive use rather than in answer to a situation that arises. Glad to have this added to my medical cabinet. I will have to learn more about all what it can do, and what it cant.

Too thick
I've used a healing salve for a while and I've been happy with it. However, I would like to find a similar product that could be applied from a tube. I thought this one might be a good alternative, but I found it to be too thick and pasty. When I put it on my skin, it is so thick that I can't smear it around. I can barely wash it off. I use zinc cream to help with my eczema, but I don't find that this product helps. I think this may be something that people use on their nose to protect them against sunburn.
