Very nice
I recently added the Penderyn Madeira Finish to my whisky collection and I’ve been very pleased with it—it’s become a go-to when I want something distinct, high-quality, and not overwhelming. Part of Penderyn’s “Gold Range,” this single malt is aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira wine casks, giving it a beautifully refined character. What stands out: On the nose: there’s a lovely aroma of cream toffee, rich fruit and raisins—inviting but subtle. On the palate: it delivers a fine balance of crispness and sweetness. The Madeira finish provides tropical fruit notes and vanilla, yet it keeps a dry, elegant frame thanks to the oak. Finish: the tropical fruit, raisins and vanilla hang around pleasantly without lingering into sweetness overload. It feels polished and controlled rather than heavy or overly indulgent. The 46% ABV gives it enough backbone to serve neat or with a splash of water, without being harsh or overly fiery. My experience: I’ve used this as an after-dinner dram and also as a thoughtful gift to share with friends. It holds up well when poured over ice or with a drop of water, but I find it best appreciated neat or with minimal dilution so the Madeira influence shines through. The bottle and branding complement its premium feel—makes it look great on the shelf or as a special occasion pour. Considerations: If you’re used to heavily peated or ultra-smoky whiskies, this is more refined and fruit-driven—so it may feel “lighter” in style. Because it falls into the premium bracket, you’ll want to savour rather than use it casually. Being part of a defined “house style” expression, much of the uniqueness comes from the finishing cask rather than radical experimental cask types—so if you like wildly unconventional finishes, you may prefer something more exotic. Overall: The Penderyn Madeira Finish is a beautifully crafted single malt that blends Welsh heritage with refined finishing. It’s elegant, flavourful and distinct — perfect for sipping slowly and appreciating the craft behind it. If you’re looking for something that stands out without being over the top, this whisky is a very strong choice.

Punches way above its price range
I am not a whisky aficionado but have tried most whiskies at this price range. Quite sweet, strong caramel and toffee with finishes of salt and seaweed, this whisky is a true delight for those who like a non-peaty yet complex whisky at a cheap. Extremely complex flavours and a complete bargain for £28 that I paid although you need to keep watch for such occasions as it normally goes for £38. This is by far has become my go to, easily surpassing Bunnhahabain which had become my favourite for under £30 range. Cannot recommend enough, again, if you like a sweet and non-peaty whisky.

🏴 Welsh beauty! 🏴
I bought this as a gift for a couple who are expecting a baby. I'm not a spirit drinker personally but have plenty of friends (Scottish, Irish and Welsh), who enjoy single malt whiskey. I asked if this is a good example of a Welsh whiskey, and a good whiskey in general, to which all gave the thumbs up. In my opinion it is very well presented and a gift that I would be delighted to receive. Hope they like it! Everyone should have a decent bottle of whiskey in the house, even if it is to offer to guests! 👍🏻

What a fantastic gift for the whisky connoisseurs.
I never knew Wales made whisky, far less Single Malt Whisky. The presentation box really sets it off, making it look sophisticated and elegant. I was going to drink it, but I decided against it as it looks too good to ruin what is a very well presented item. Given all this it made it very good value for money, and a welcomed addition to my ever growing collection of Single Malt Whisky’s.

Vive La Difference. One to try without prejudice.
Having sadly bypasses the distillery on a return visit from Wales, I had often looked at the bottles of Penderyn that were making inroads into my local supermarkets and been curious. Could the Welsh make a decent whisky? I had tried the gin (quaffable enough, but slightly underwhelming, given the glowing reviews), I'd even tried the Merlyn cream liquor (rather more-ish, and one that seemed to improve from opening). Then I saw this one on Amazon, on offer, at 46% and with a 'Madeira finish'. Once more I was intrigued, my interest further piqued by the range of widely differing reviews. This time I bit the bullet. So what is it like? It is deceptively smooth on the palate, and is certainly worthy of a place alongside the Scotch and Irish variants. It has a smoky finish following a sweet and warming opening, and for me was a little reminiscent of William Lawson's blended scotch. It is quite light; the taste is not as intense as an aged whisky, which would be in keeping with the younger whisky style to which Penderyn belongs. Would I buy it again? Yes. Is it up there with the likes of Highland Park or Lapraiogh? Not at this time, but vive la difference, I reckon.

Nice gift
It's for a gift, as the person likes this whiskey and I wanted to get them a glass too. I don't know much about whiskeys but I liked this one. It's stronger than the others I've tried, but soft and doesn't have the strong smokey woody barrell's smell, which to me is better. I like this one without ice, not diluting it. Some brands are better with ice to open the flavours, but not this one. At least that's my opinion and as I said I don't know much about whiskeys 😁 Just enjoy!

5 stelle!
