Very decent battery life (many days in my case - depends on the use, but definitely times longer than, say, Samsung), bright screen, good sensors, fast GPS, a good menu of activity programs and health analytics. Simple intuitive interface and controls. It's not as sleek as Samsung or Apple, doesn't have features like pay or phone replacement, but as a sports watch it's great. Suunto's bike sensors are not available. Haven't tried yet integration with 3rd party Bluetooth bike sensor set..

I was very hesitant to buy a Suunto due to the number of stars but then I actually read the reviews and most of the negative ones are from people who aren't in the demographic Suunto markets to. The stupidest complaint was that the watch doesn't tell them the weather (outside temperature). That's not what this watch is for! My previous watch was a Coros Apex 2, before that, the Coros Apex and before that I had a Garmin Fenix 5. The Coros Apex 2 would die way quicker than it's previous version, where I ran for over 24 hours and still had 60 percent battery life left. I dont think it would last me a full race. The Garmin Fenix died after 15 hours. I run distances up to 100 miles and I wanted something that would be able to hold battery life for a good number of hours. After using the Suunto Race S, I think with the right settings, I should be able to get through a long race just fine. Then there's the Suunto app. I have an Android and am loving the features. You can create workouts on the app and sync them with the watch. The GPS and HR connect quick. It drove me crazy with my old watches when I would have to stand around for 5 min waiting for the GPS to be ready. Also I found the heart rate and mileage tracking to be accurate. I don't notice any deviations when comparing mileage with my previous runs recorded with the Coros. Another thing that delivered was aesthetics. This is a beautiful watch. I wanted something neutral, but not black. My Coros Apex 2 was a coral color and just seemed clunky. It had to go. I am loving this light grey color, which is pretty much a grayish white. It's gorgeous and classy. If you want something that acts like a phone, go get yourself an Apple Watch! Stop writing bad reviews for outdoor adventure watches just because you didn't bother to educate yourself.

Update Nov/2025. Dropping a star. The dread of needing to reconfigure every activity to auto-resume and disable "feelings" has led me to avoid watch updates altogether. I'll add two stars if they fix it. Summary - I really like it as a sports watch, but some things annoy me enough to mention. Pros Performance - touchscreen, gps and navigating through the watch are excellent Battery life - with one 30min activity per day I only need to charge it once a day for about 15mins Screen - great quality, brightness, etc for a watch Cons I've contacted Suunto support about these. They were very polite, but ultimately could not solve either. I don't want to return the watch so I'm living with the drawbacks by choice. Updates reset all of your activity settings. Every. Time. "Feelings" in particular, where it asks how you feel at the end of an activity. There's no global setting to turn this off. It has to be set per activity, and it has to be set on the watch, at the end of the options list. Ill happily add the 5th star if this gets fixed. VO2 max - it doesn't matter how many times I run, effort level, or how tight the watch band is, it calculates my VO2 max at 49 every time. I trail run and street run, I'm not in great shape (avg 9min miles for three mile runs), it seems really unlikely the v02 max is accurate. Overall I really like this watch. I won't be looking for an alternative, but when it's time to get a new one I'll be evaluating other brands if they can't fix the preferences getting erased at every update.

This was an unexpected surprise, I have a Coros Apex 2 Pro and Fenix 6, having this Suunto Race S, honestly, they are at the same level with few things that could be better. First, the glass will scratch so make sure of buying a screen protector, gorilla glass is just a good looking glass, protection wise… hhmm! battery performance is excellent, better than Garmin, I charged it 8 days ago and still is on 30% left, haven’t try on GPS mode, but looks closer to Coros (Coros is the best battery in the market right now), screen brightness is great, great look and durability seems to be a High point too. Now, the APP, I think this is my biggest concern, synchronize the watch with the phone, messages, pairing it with iPhone and Training peaks was very very easy, but you don’t have many Watch faces, you cannot create watch faces, you can change some details of the complications, but is very limited. The bands are more expensive than coros or Garmin, and they use a button system instead of the traditional secure hinge. The construction of the watch is great, solid and robust. Again, I was not expecting this, it was a surprise, they are not at the same level of Coros in terms of interphase and app functionality, but the watch screen definitely is a lot better that other companies like Garmin or Coros. The watch itself is great but the colour is not at all grey and I returned it. It is more of a creamy beige colour and that was not what I was expecting nor something that suits me. I did the watch in the pink instead.
