Do these chews soften up with saliva like rawhide does? I don't want something too hard for my older dog.

They act much like a rawhide without being a rawhide. They get soft as the dog chews, they do not stain the light colored carpet we have that they chew on, and they do not smell bad.

I know with everything you have to watch your dog. But I'm nervous about him choking on this. Any problems?

Be very very careful. My dog LOVES them and can chew one up in an hour or so, but she appears to rather die than give up that last piece/pieces that break off. She just nearly choked on one and it is the last I will ever ever ever give her.

What is in the ingredients list? I've looked on Earth Animal's website to no avail.
