I decided to purchase the Aqara FP1 Presence Sensor to address a common issue in my home: lights being left on unnecessarily and ensuring lights turn on when someone enters a room with low natural light. I use a Philips Hue motion sensor to measure light levels, which complements the FP1 perfectly.Installation and SetupThe installation process was straightforward and hassle-free. Pairing the FP1 with Home Assistant was a breeze, and I had it up and running in no time. The instructions were clear, and the magnetic base made it easy to place the sensor in the optimal position.Integration and PerformanceThe integration with my existing smart home setup has been seamless. The FP1 works flawlessly with Home Assistant, and since I started using it, my lights come on and go off exactly as needed. I’ve been using the Aqara ecosystem now for over 5 years and I love the unique and interesting products they launch.The Aqara FP1E is no exception, it’s a great all round presence sensor that I use to detect if there is someone present in the living room or not, I can then use automations in the Aqara App or HomeKit to turn off the TV or lights when no presence is detected for a certain amount of time, but the thing is so smart it knows if I’m sitting still watching TV as it’s not just your every day motion sensor.I won’t profess to know how the mmWave tech in the FP1E works but it just does!I also have it set to enable night light at dim levels to help get to the bathroom.It is a very advanced device with AI built in to allow it to disregard movement or presence for my dog, and knows a human being vs an animal to stop false triggering.I connect mine to my Aqara M3 hub (as a 3.0 hub is required for use) and it’s been flawless to date.Mounting can be an issue as you need USB 5v/1A available if you want to mount it in the corner of your room, but a little bit of paintable semi rounded conduit to hide the cable and bobs your uncle!If you want an advanced Presence Detection device, I highly recommend this one, it currently also offers a 15% off voucher so I feel like it’s even greater value for money.

Bought two of these, one for the living room, one for the bedroom which should mean that for the majority of time time sometimes at home presence would be detected.Had hoped to say up an automation to turn on the security system when no one is detected at home for 20 mins, in case the part person to leave forgets to.Had also hoped to set up automations to turn on and off devices if going to bed turning on lights if walking around at night etcBut in the end wasn't and to do any of that as the sensors report absence when only a couple of meters away from them.Tried adjusting sensor distance. Raising the sensors off the floor, using AI learning when rooms are. None of it helped. They detect me with perfect line of sight for a couple of metres, but the moment I sit down or walk behind the sofa it claims there's no presence.In the end these sensors just became paper weights

When they work they’re great. However I’ve bought two and both kept disconnecting and had to be reset. I’ve returned both of them now
