Life-Changing!!
Despite reading at least 200 books a year (and 22 books already this year), I rarely write reviews. After reading The Wedding People, I knew I had to write one.On the surface, The Wedding People is a light-hearted, entertaining read—the kind of book I usually enjoy in the moment but ultimately forget about the minute I pick up the next book. The story was enjoyable and entertained me with witty dialogue and many laugh-out-loud moments. My husband kept asking what I was laughing about, and I ultimately read several passages to him. I read the book in two sittings because I couldn't put it down. But what made it life-changing?For me, there was a deeper meaning beneath the story's surface. The book, through its characters and their experiences, offered profound insights into life, love, and relationships. Each character enabled me to see my life and those in it in a new light. I identified the most with Phoebe. I saw myself in the way she lived and thought about life. I learned the same lessons and had the same revelations at the same time she did. By the end of the book, like Phoebe, I learned a new way of living and looking at the world. The author did an excellent job telling this story. This will be a light-hearted, entertaining read with a satisfying ending for most people. It is one of those books that steals hours from your day because you can't put it down. This will be an eye-opening and life-changing read for others who might have stagnated in life like me. The book's profound insights and relatable characters can inspire a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of purpose, making it a truly transformative read. So, what will it be for you?Either way, you can't go wrong with The Wedding People. It's the best book I've read in a long time, and I highly recommend it!

This One Grew on Me
This one is kind of strange. While I did not really love or root for the characters in this book, I applaud the writing and the cool way they provide a lens for a plot that is both smart and really funny. Espach seems to paint characters with careful measure that tell a larger story--without sentimentality. Just cool observation. And that plot carries, ingeniuous in parts, laugh out loud in others. Absurd and true.

Come for the wedding—stay for the emotional gut-punch wrapped in sea breeze and unexpected friendship.
This is one of those rare books that leaves a permanent mark. I loved it so much the first time, I couldn’t wait to read it again—and I made sure my book club read it too. It’s a novel that surprises you in the best, most soul-shaking way.The Wedding People tackles some of life’s heaviest topics with a kind of grace that’s hard to put into words. It’s raw and real, but never bleak. Espach lays it all out without flinching, yet somehow still leaves room for hope, humor, and human connection. That balance? It’s masterful. The premise is bold and unlike anything I’ve read before. A woman arrives at a seaside hotel in Rhode Island with a heavy heart and a plan—only to find herself in the middle of a weeklong wedding celebration. What follows is immersive, surprising, and full of quiet revelations. You feel like you’re right there, another unexpected guest, wrapped up in salt air, tangled emotions, and the strange intimacy of being among strangers. This book doesn’t just tell a story—it pulls you in, holds you close, and doesn’t let go. It’s mature, moving, and unforgettable. Five stars, no question. A forever favorite.★★★★★

Best book of 2024!
Alison Espach’s The Wedding People is a beautifully written, bittersweet novel about love, loss, and the passage of time. Set during a wedding weekend in Newport, Rhode Island, it follows Phoebe Stone as she confronts past heartbreak at the same venue where she once suffered a devastating loss. Espach’s sharp, observant prose balances humor and melancholy, making the novel both poignant and deeply relatable. With richly drawn characters and an elegant yet emotionally charged setting, The Wedding People is a quiet, moving exploration of how time shapes our relationships and ourselves.

Wonderful Dramatic Comedy
This is a character driven story with drama but told in a hilarious way. Our protagonist finds herself standing at the edge of the abyss. It is clear her life is about to change forever. She ends up at a posh hotel and everyone believes she is part of a million-dollar wedding there. Hilarity ensues when the bride meets her and declares the protagonist is not allowed to disrupt the meticulous plans of the weeklong wedding events. They become fast friends, confiding their secrets. The groom, the best man, the soon to be mother-in-law and stepdaughter all have great characters too. Even the other people at the wedding and Pauline from the hotel too..This story's charm is in the realness of it all. These people actually exist someplace in the world. It's a story about what happened in those days. I say the ending leaves room for part 2 and I can't wait to find out what happens to all of them next. A great read for my book club. We unanimously voted "Yes" a great story!

Highly Recommend!
The Wedding People is a darkly humorous and insightful exploration of love, relationships, and human connection. The novel follows a diverse group of characters as they navigate their own desires and insecurities. Espach’s sharp wit and ability to balance humor with emotional depth make the characters feel both relatable and complex. I especially loved following Phoebe’s growth throughout the story, as well as the theme of learning more about yourself through meeting new people. For me, the pacing occasionally felt uneven, with some sections dragging. However, it remains a thoughtful, funny, and emotional look at the messiness of relationships that’s definitely worth the read!
