With some concepts even cooler than the movie. - My favorite thing about Art Of books has always been seeing the different options of what could have been put in the movie. The movie had three different directors at different times who ultimately individually changed the direction the movie took. The changes in director and a lot of the production items are not discussed in the book. But you do get a ton of concept art throughout! There isn't much text except for a page at the beginning of each chapter, and a brief description of the artwork. But the pictures speak for themselves and offer their own stories. Whether you liked the movie or not, there is so much to enjoy about the book. The pages and binding are the usual excellent quality expected from Abrams publishing. The pictures are clear, bright, and vibrant. With some double page spreads and really impressive images that are sometimes so much cooler than even the final product of the movie. If only because you can use your imagination to create your own stories from the pictures. Review: A Star Wars Story Hardcover Edition is an amazing Visual Experience - The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story Hardcover Edition is an amazing Visual Experience. Wonderful and gorgeous book, much detail into the care of the pre-production process
Excellent book that really dives deep into the development process of this amazing movie. Reading through the book, you realize that a lot of care has been put into developing the lore around not only the established Star Wars movies but also connecting the dots and further bridging the Sequel Trilogy to Original Trilogy. Like the other books in the " Art of ... " series, the book is gorgeous, the paper used is nice and glossy, and the layout of the artwork and written content is well balanced. The con to this product is 100% on Amazon and their distrubution centers. I've had to return this book twice due to damage during shipping. The spine collapsed on the book I originally pre-ordered and the replacement was completely ripped up the spin and the dust cover destroyed. The packaging was less to be desired, with a delicate book thrown in a large box with some flimsy 'bubble' wrap. I'm now waiting for my third copy to arrive and hopefully it won't come back completely ruined. There's a spot in my bookcase next to "The Art of The Last Jedi" and its getting kind of lonely without it.

and "Solo" doesn't disappoint. In fact
As a series, the "Art Of..." books for Star Wars are consistently interesting and engaging, and "Solo" doesn't disappoint. In fact, as someone who owns virtually all of them (going back to the 1970s Art of Star Wars original) this ranks in the top five. While I enjoyed the movie, this book actually caused me to think what kind of movie Disney COULD HAVE made based on the art work in this volume. This book tantalizes a truly gritty and original take on what ended up being a fairly standard film about a beloved character. The depictions of the main characters and their various incarnations leading up to filming are fascinating (Chewbacca steals the art show this time out) and the numerous locations and their technology round out this impressive approach to what ended up being a somewhat pedestrian finished film. One game readers can play with this is "who directed what?" in terms of what made it and what didn't and which director (originals or Ron Howard) may have gotten which parts to the big screen. In this volume, Howard's body of evidence points to a much more streamlined (almost safe) treatment of Solo rather than the more edgy and off beat versions shown in the early artwork. I would have loved to have seen Corellia as this book shows it early on, with its towering industrial complexes and outlying islands for naval production and manufacturing. Solo's turn as a pilot would have been fun (samples here have him crashing an Imperial ship a la Top Gun character redemption set up mode) and his time working on TIE fighters before blasting off with Chewie and meeting Lando and various other characters. This book is incredibly rewarding to read and examine, a boon for readers everywhere but possibly a step down for comparison to the existing film. While there are always choices made in what gets in the films from early art concepts, the choices made here seem especially strange when comparing the two works.

A beautiful book, whether you liked the film or not
Whether you like the 'Solo' movie or not, this art book, much like all the previous ones that have been release alongside the movies, is quite a treat. Yes, it doesn't mention much regarding the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller and the hiring of Ron Howard --I hope that DOES get mentioned in the already-announced 'making of' book--, but apart from that, 'The Art of Solo: a Star Wars Story' does give you a look inside the creative process of making a complicated and fantastical motion picture. I personally liked the film quite a bit, but even if you didn't, this book will make you realise it was made with a lot of sweat and tears and time and, in general, a lot of effort. The fact that they were trying to tell Han's story through the visualisation of the journey from east to west (from an industrial city to the far west, to the desert) is quite intriguing, as well as all the concept art and, as usual, all the unused ideas and character looks. Yes, some of these concepts *seem* to be more interesting than what we ended up with, but that tends to happen with ANY movie. In any case, this is a book made with love, with dedication, that serves to show that all the unwanted hate towards 'Solo' is MAYBE a little too much. If you're a fan, you definitely have to check this one out.

Another beautiful and engaging art book from the Star Wars series
Another beautiful and engaging art book from the Star Wars series. These days, opinions always vary on the movies themselves but the four art books that have accompanied the Disney-era films have not disappointed. In this case, we have a vibrantly designed movie that feels right at home with the Original Trilogy designs while finding a voice of its own. The book does not go into depth on the shift from the Lord/Miller phase to the Ron Howard finished product but the dating of much of the art makes it possible to reconstruct some of the differences in the initial vision to final product. Solo the movie turned out better than any pre-release speculation indicated: it is a terrifically fun ride with several characters we have loved for many years along with some memorable new additions. The art book is a great companion for anyone who enjoyed the film and would like to learn more.

Full of Gorgeous Art Work!
Really captures what it is like to create a movie that traverses a galaxy. Includes vehicles and characters that didn't make it into the movie and it is great to be able to enjoy the creative vision. Beautiful pictures that I will use for reference when building my models and working on projects. Full of great information that any Star Wars fan will appreciate.
