Yes the seat is adjustable so a regular sized Barbie can fit as well as smaller dolls.

What is the range it can go away from the controller?

My daughter was controlling it from a solid 50 ft. away in the yard this morning. I was surprised/impressed.

can it go over mud and rocks

no. it barely goes over shag carpet. That being said it is a lot of fun for a 3-6yr old still learning how to control. it doesn't build up enough speed to damage itself or other things in the house and the torque is so low that you can't pinch fingers etc.
