A friend had recommended this a cookbook that I had never had... chock full of great information and simple to follow recipes. A kitchen staple must have!

Liked the old edition better
Its Betty Crocker so how could you go wrong? My old Betty Crocker fell apart after many, many years of use. I liked better than this one. Even so it is a good cook book.

Recipes I grew up with.
These recipes are mostly the basis of what mom cooked throughout my childhood with a few tweaks for personal taste. Some of the greatest of all time.

Better Homes cookbook
Received my Betty Crocker Cook book and it was damaged. The shipping envelope that it was sent in was tore up and the inside of the book was soaking wet. I hope I can take the pages and separate them without ripping the pages that are stuck together.

Chock full of good ideas and recipes
This cookbook is full of recipes that reads like your mom's sticky, well-loved recipe box. I haven't found anything ground breaking, but that's not really why I purchased it. Although I am already an experienced cook, I've had so much success with BHG recipes in the past that when I saw this new updated edition I decided to add it to my cookbook collection. It's got lots of illustrations of both recipes and techniques. When I first received it I settled back in my favorite chair, snuggled up in an afghan, and browsed through the whole thing. So often I saw a recipe that I recalled eating at a party, picnic, shower, etc. I think BHG is very All-American and this cookbook reflects the foods we've come to know and love. That's not to say it is just a collection of old-fashioned foods. There were plenty of new recipe ideas I've come across, too, but there' nothing too exotic, too expensive, or too difficult for the typical busy but food loving American. A lot of the recipes are good for rushed week day dinners, but they're better than throwing a can of soup on chicken and instant rice and calling it dinner. I've only had it a few weeks but I have already made several recipes from it and they have all been straightforward and a hit with family and friends. This is probably the cookbook I will recommend for my sons, who are 20 and 22, when they move out on their own. FYI: I would recommend this ring bound edition. I first purchased the plastic comb edition but returned it in exchange for the ring bound edition. The paper in the plastic comb edition was very thin and the plastic comb was so tight that page turning was going to forever be a very delicate affair. The ring bound is only a few dollars more, but unless you are very careless there doesn't seem to be much chance of tearing.

5⭐️For the subject matter, not quality
The book arrived on time. However, for the price, I expected a perfect book. Especially, since it was new. The corners are scuffed and beginning to tear. The tabs were bent. Then to notice the bar code price is a 1/3 of the price.

Very good starter cookbook
This is an American book, and one should be prepared to the mentions of American products and measures. This is also not an advanced cookbook - but then, it isn't what it claims to be either. That said, this is an excellent starter cookbook and guide to kitchen-keeping not just for a new bride or groom, but anyone who has moved out of their parents' home and has no idea what that funny-shaped pan or pot is for (and wants to learn).Directions and explanations are very good, the recipes truly easy, and the really nice make-it-your-own pages (which let you select options you add up to a specific dish) are a wonderful teaching tool. Ideas of how to use leftovers of any particular dish (two dishes presented side-by-side as cook today, eat today and tomorrow combos) are also a fantastic idea.Generally very recommended, but not for anyone who already knows how to cook. It's a good book of basics, not anything to put polish on your fancy cooking skills.

best basic cookbook ever written!
Do not get the modern updated version! They changed the recipes to be more healthy and none of them work. Stick with this edition and you can't go wrong!
