That wild and crazy guy, Steve Martin, makes his film-starring debut in the wacky comedy The Jerk. Steve portrays Navin Johnson, adopted son of a poor black sharecropper family, whose crazy inventions lead him from rags to riches and right back to rags. Along the way, he's smitten with a lady motorcycle racer, survives a series of screwball attacks by a deranged killer and becomes a millionaire by inventing the 'Opti-grab' handle for glasses. It's an outrageous comedy with one laugh after another!Bonus Content: Learn How to Play "Tonight You Belong to Me" The Lost Filmstrips of Father Carlos Las Vegas de Cordova Theatrical Trailer Production Notes

Martin grew up a poor black child and then he realized he was white and had to see the world
I was a huge fan of Steve Martin’s stand up routine in the 1970s so when he came out with The Jerk I was excited. It didn’t disappoint as it was the funniest movie of the yean when it was released.Martin’s standout was always about the absurd and that’s what he went for in The Jerk. That starts right at the beginning as Martin as Navin explains how he grew up a poor black child in the south. Part of that was finding out he wasn’t black. He asks his mother, does that mean his skin was going to stay white? Later he leaves his family to discover himself. His dad gives him the advice never trust whitey. Later Navin works at a gas station and a crazed man decides to try to assassinate him. The killer keeps missing and hitting oil cans to which Navin deduces that the gunman hates cans. No matter where Navin tries to hide however there are cans.If all that sounds funny then The Jerk is for you.C

Funny classic movie.
Probably offends some people but this is a pretty funny movie. Used to watch it with my dad when I was younger so I got it for him as a gift.

Son, you’re going to be alright.
Boy, I wish I could get that excited about nothing. This movie follows the life story of Navin R Johnson played by Steve Martin. Navin R Johnson is a complex individual. I’m so glad I know about this movies existence. Things are going to start happening to me now that I’ve seen this movie. Gosh what a great time I had. I wish my whole family could have been here with me. Maybe some other time as I intend to do this a lot. Every chance I get. This movie is just what I needed. And I don't need one other thing, except my dog.[dog growls]I don't need my dog.

A necessity for those who love to laugh!
This movie has been in my life as long as I can remember. There was so much talent in the 70-80-90's. But especially the 70 & 80's. It was overwhelming how many great movies there were back then, thank goodness for the laughing lessons we learned from growing up watching goofy movies like this one...nothing can take away that feeling of pure madness (in a good way) that this movie presents. A must see!

How times have changed
Black folks are going to find this hidden comedy and declare it and all who watch racist. I can't believe it hasn't been thrown on the bonfire of progressive intolerance. Keep it secret or it will have the fate of all the old classics.
