The Holy Quran in English, Noble Quran English Translation by Marmaduke Pickthall: Premium Paperback Black Edition, Koran in English (annotated) Review: Good English edition - Without a doubt, this is a great book. Excellent in-depth translation. Good formatting. I think these books should be on my bookshelf. The book contains an explanation of terms and phrases so that the reader can understand the full depth of the ancient text. I'm pleased with the purchase. Alas, I didn’t read it long enough, it’s the kind of book that, after reading a few pages it takes a couple of days to understand. However, owning this publication calms me; sometimes, I re-read some chapters. I think it will help me in my study of world religions. Review: A yes for me - I love this holy book

Old English translation
I am from a different faith, but with so many people in my life with this faith, I wanted to learn. I found that this is certainly not for beginners. It isn't translated into our English so that we could read it and understand. It is in very old English, and I don't even have my own Bible in this version. It was just too hard for me to follow to decide it was worth the study. Sorry.

It's good to learn about Islam.
It's important for people to know about the Islamic Law of Abrogation, which means that when some of the revelations contradict others, how do you reconcile this? Well, it has been Islamically decided that the ones that came LATER in Mohammad's life cancel out the verses that came earlier. Unfortunately, Quran is not arranged in order of revelation, so only scholars and those that study the Hadiths (the stories of Mo's life) would know which verses are applicable and which are not. Spoiler: anything peaceful-sounding he said was early in life, when he didn't have many followers, and is cancelled out by the very violent Medina verses. You may ask yourself, if parts of the Quran are not Islamically valid, why are they still in there? Isn't that confusing? Well, the only reason I can think of is deception. Moe himself said, "war is deception," and he also clearly said that followers are eternally at war with non-believers, until the entire world lives under Islamic rule. Non-Muslims are allowed to live under Islam as Dhimmis, which is a class of people with reduced rights who must pay tribute for their safety. The Mecca verses (the more peaceful ones) most only be there for gathering new converts, because most people don't know about the Law of Abrogation.. They figure, once a follower is converted and deeply entrenched, over time they can slowly learn the deeper teachings. Let's learn about the founder. He was a warlord who went around with his followers on raids against non-Muslims (which they called jihad), and then captured the innocent people and gave them a choice between conversion to Islam, slavery, or death. In this way he amassed many slaves, much wealth, a large following, and conquered Medina and much of the Arabian Penninsula. His favorite of his 11 wives was Aisha, and she was only 6 years old (he was 53). He committed many unspeakable atrocities. It is, above all, a political ideology, with a specific government system and legal system outlined in Quran. They believe they must conquer the world and make it live under Sharia, by any means. Deception and dishonesty in the name of Islam is considered a blessed thing (this is called Taqquiya). The West is Islamifiying extremely quickly, we must share this information while it is still safe and legal to do so.

Difficult to follow
I tried to read this but it was very strangely written and difficult to follow. It may help for the author to orient the reader to the unique verbiage, obscurity of messaging, etc. Definitely not something for a newbie who's trying to understand the Quran.

Modern Versions are Better
I found the version easy to search in Kindle and well laid out. However, the version is similar to the King James Version of the Bible. The use of hath, shouldst, ye, enjoineth, whence, cometh result in some difficulties making more current versions, available on-line, a better choice. As background, I understood the history of the translation and believed it would be a good resource. However, I would recommend English readers look for a different , more modern version.

No explanations or commentary
While the translation is clear, it doesn’t offer any background or deeper meanings of the verses. This book might be good for those already familiar with the Quran, but it’s not very helpful for someone like me who is just starting out.

Difficult to follow...
I found this book difficult to follow due to its strange writing style and obscure messaging. It would benefit from better orientation for readers, especially those new to understanding the Quran.

This kindle edition is cleanly laid out and easy to follow, split into chapters and arranged into stanzas. Like most holy texts, it's a dry read, but better than most. There's some beautiful imagery and passages. And unusually, it draws from a lot of other religions, which I found unusual... For instance, there are multiple mentions of Moses and Jesus. All in all, a great option for an English translation.

I really liked that each Surah is listed in the table of contents making it very easy for the reader to find whatever they are looking for. The Islamic name and the English translation of the Surah are both included, so it’s easy for the reader to understand what that Surah is about. For example, Surah 30 Ar-Rum is about The Roman Empire. In fact, I never realised each Surah covered a specific topic and that there was one covering the Roman Empire. The English translation is actually fairly easy to understand, which is quite an achievememnt considering it’s a translation of not only a foreign language (Arabi) but olde world syntax. The book is well formatted, and the translation is very well done, making it easy to read and understand.
