Why is it 200 dollars more than the suggested retail price?

The next guy "answering" this question just retorts with 'another' answer that it doesn't make sense... like: You're just jacking up the price when the first guy is actually 'asking' why is it $200 more! and for those who 'don't know' or don't do the actual research, this welder like other overpriced Millers, are Made in China and are no better than the less expensive Chinese brands, you're just paying for the name brand. I've had a Ton of Miller welders over the years and I've just about had it. They break down easily, specially the new 'inverter' types and I'm talking about any inverter that is computer-based, not transformers. For that reason, I'd rather buy a Chinese-Made $79 welder than a $700 one and take my chances... and some of them come with a 2 years warranty. Transformers last Forever but you have to trade weight (90 Lbs & up) over portability and convenience if you want to own a welder that won't quit too soon and it's reliable, like a transformer-based welder, It's just metal coils putting up against magnetic resistance but no computer parts which also will give you a 100% duty cycle all day long. And for those asking why this Miller or any other Chinese brand won't handle an e6010 Rod, it's because it's under a $1,000 price tag. Only a good one like HTP or Fronius modern Inverter ($1,500 to $2,500) can handle just about any Rod, including a e-6010 but! you also get Hot Starts, Pulse and portability plus other perks. Hey, you get what you pay for and to 'add' another Miller to my Miller cemetery of welders, I'd rather buy 7 or 8 Chinese welders that will guarantee me at least 10 years of service... and I'm betting one of those welders will outlast a Miller or Hobart or even an Esab. And people, please... no matter what you are told out there, ONLY an HTP (made in Switzerland) or a Fronius (Made in Germany & Switzerland) are quality guaranteed. Everything else is made in China. So deal with it or pay for quality.

Can you weld 1/8inch rods with this machine?

Yes you can use 1/8 all day. I dont like it for open root welds it cuts the arc too easy. I would recommend if you buy this machine not to use the electrode holder or the ground clamp it comes with the cables are very short as well I took my quick connects apart and put 15ft cables on with a better electrode holder
