Pretty nice, fancy cube - but magnets too weak, action too loose
I didn’t have time for Rubik’s cubes back when they first appeared in the ‘80s, but have finally got 3 of ‘em just this year. The first two were fairly nice cubes by Zioyckl, both stickered to achieve the colors - but I never really liked the stickers, even though they were relatively well done for stickers, but always obviously gonna’ wear out - and also glossy/glary shiny in a way that sometimes made it extra-difficult to distinguish the yellow stickers from the white. The second of the Zioyckls was even magnetic, and did that quite well, although at a relatively high price. But most of the available stickerless cubes have really ugly, pale, “pastel” colors. It seems that it must be difficult to color-dye ABS plastic, at least to achieve good, saturated colors. I ordered this Gan cube in large part because it is stickerless with colors that are pretty good, way better than most of the stickerless competition, although still well behind the sticker colors. So I get away from the stickers but at the sacrifice of some color quality. And I also chose this Gan cube because it is magnetic, incorporates magnets to cause the cube to tend to snap into good, square alignment - but, now that I have it in hand, I find that the magnetic action on this cube is rather weak, weaker than I would prefer, and weaker than the stronger magnetic action on the Zioyckl cube. (I gather that the strength of the magnetic action is adjustable on some more expensive cubes, but not on either of these two.)My initial take on this Gan’s weaker magnetic action was that it is a matter of personal preference how strong that magnetic action should be. However, the mechanical action on this Gan cube is quite loose, it’s all too easy to push this cube’s layers around and out of position and alignment, even just by holding it gently by your fingertips. If its magnetic action were stronger, it would keep the cube better together, keep it from slip/sliding out of alignment; but, with the magnetic action as relatively weak as it is, and the mechanical action so loose, the cube really is unstable while you’re holding it. Overall I prefer the action of the Zioyckl cube over this Gan - but prefer the Gan’s stickerlessness. The surface of this cube is very lightly textured, in a way they call “frosted.” The frosting probably improves the handling and grip of the cube, and probably also reduces glare so as to make it easier to see and distinguish the surface colors. This Gan cube weighs just 2.0 ounces, compared to 2.8 ounces for both of the Zioyckls. Evidently this lighter weight is widely considered a plus, although, for myself I don’t think I care much; maybe I’d find the lighter weight more attractive if I were aiming to set a speed record. One dis-stinkt negative of this cube is that it stinks, smells, quite literally, at least to my nose - probably the plastic, maybe even as a consequence of whatever they have to do to color it, since certainly no other Rubik’s cube I’ve ever handled had any such odor. The good news is that the smell seems to be fading over the few days I’ve had this cube out of its wrapping, so hopefully it’ll be effectively de-stunk in a week or two. This Gan cube is a bit expensive, but competitive with the few other available cubes that are both magnetic and stickerless with reasonably good colors. However, its rather loose, sloppy action, including weak magnets, is a problem. I’ll be nice and rate it 4 stars.

Its OK
After having several speed cubes, this one is just OK. It's not the fastest, and sometimes the magnetic mechanism doesn't respond the way I expect as it does with other cubes (the rows are supposed to stick together with certain motions, and with this cube they don't always). Oddly, when I took it out of the box it felt kind of oily, like they tried to overlubricate it at the factory. I've used more expensive models from this brand and I was impressed, so I know they can do it right. It seems weird how this one just barely missed the mark.

Fell apart on the first twist
I expected better from this cube, but it was a disaster. I opened the packet, tried a quick Sune algorithm, and it fell apart!
