My kid plays with this type of block at school and loves them. He calls them connectors. We got him this set for home and he was initially very disappointed in the lack of triangular pieces the set at school has. He got over it and makes amazing inventions (lots of transformers). Since the pieces have a single peg, they can swivel and turn in fun ways. There are enough that he can save some of his favorite inventions for a while and still have plenty to use. I like the variety of bright colors. They do hurt to step on, so we've told him he has to play with them in his room.
