Killer MicroSD Portable Stereo!
Of the many small portable mono and stereo radios I've owned since the 60's this BoomByte has the best sound quality, battery life and function. I'm a simi audiophile who enjoys music almost anywhere, especially outdoors. My last small portable was a Melson S8 which had nice mono sound but finally died as the push buttons slowly became erratic. It's final demise was when it's old mini usb power connector broke off inside. I have others but their sound quality just doesn't cut it. The reviews on this Avantree Boombyte intrigued me enough to buy and I'm not disappointed at all. For it's small handheld size it packs some quality stereo sound. It's not a funky loud boombox. It's a nice little handheld personal Stereo with just the right amount of mp3 information displayed on its small screen. I couldn't find a user photo of the screen displaying the MicroSD MP3 info so I've included one here. Another must have for me is a good Random/Shuffle function. I only wish there was a dedicated button for it instead of having to open the menu and change selections with multiple choices. I arrange my favorite MP3's in alphabetic order by Artist name hyphen Song. When on my usual Random play and wish to hear another song from the same Artist I typically take it out of random then go back or forward to the Artist's song I wish to hear. A separate normal/random or programmable button would be fantastic. Frankly I would trade the FM button for it any day. Just have FM cycle through the "Mode" button. ex BT/FM/MP3 and make the dedicated FM button MP3 Random on/off! Photo from top to bottom: MicroSD symbol - Current song number with Total songs below - Random play Folder - ROOT or other if split into folders. Music Note Symbol - Scrolling file name left to right Play/Pause Symbol - Current track time hyphen / Total track time One final mention. If your songs, like mine, are generally at different volume levels causing a constant volume adjustment change between songs use a tool (program) such as freeware "MP3Gain" to equalize all of your music prior to copying to the microSD card. Speaking of, I'm using a Samsung 64GB exFAT card but have not tried over 32 GB of songs as I don't have that much in MP3. I also don't relish the though of re-ripping all of my CD's. One last mention. The built-in lithium battery is amazing! 2-3 days for my playing needs. FWIW it does charge at 3.1A on my multi USB charger (usb3 to usb3) which displays current draw. I'm using a certified 1.5' USB 3.2 cable if that matters. All in I'm thrilled with this little audio MP3 player. BT and FM which I rarely use work great also. The FM, with no external antenna autotunes fantastic in our rural location. It's a little more expensive than some others but IMHO worth the difference in quality.

Punches above its weight.
I wanted a small, portable sound system for close listening. This little boom box did not disappoint. The FM only radio picked up several stations from in my house and the sound quality is good. While not a dx-er it’s doesn’t seem like the usual radio afterthought. Mainly I’ve been using the mp3 from a jump drive feature. So far I have some 700 plus songs on a small drive and it works great. For its size and price the sound is excellent. Will it blow you away like a home system? No, don’t be silly, it will fill a small to medium sized room with reasonable volume music. Perfect for background music while working in the studio or shop. Battery life is very good. I haven’t tried the Bluetooth function but have no doubt that it will be good also. Could it be improved? Sure, tone controls or tonal presets might be nice and a traditional auxiliary input wouldn’t go amiss. But these are minor changes, overall I think this is a very impressive little unit for its size and price point.

Quality Throughout and Random/Shuffle mp3!
I write very few reviews. It's got to be something that really impresses me one way or another. I was unfamiliar with Avantree, but they offer random/shuffle mp3 play on their products, which was essential for me. I assumed they were just another anonymous Chinese brand focused on price point. And really, this thing didn't have to be great for what I paid for it. I was wrong. It's a sweet little player with some real thought and design in it. First off, it's a lot of watts for its size, and you can definitely hear them. They engineered the speakers and vent ports perfectly. Setting it 6-8" in front of a wall will throw impressive, true bass to a full room. It's acoustically amazing for its petite size. There are a few fixed equalizer settings and a utilitarian looking, yet fully featured LCD screen. Easy to wake it and see what you're listening to, be it mp3, radio, or bluetooth. The rotary power/volume control is sublime, saving the fuss with finding a rubber button. The rest of the buttons are convenient for choosing source, mp3 tracks, radio frequencies, and settings, but reading the short, well written manual one time is a must to make sense of it. Radio reception is incredible out of the box, but I'm urban. A usb charging cable can be used as a long distance antenna if needed. Battery performance is very good so far. The case is attractive and reasonably stout. But it's painted and corners will surely wear over time. I once chatted with their pleasant customer service team and can attest to their prompt support. Overall, I'm blown away with this little gem. Enough so that I bought its big brother, the Powerbyte, shortly after, which is also in a class of its own. 5 stars absolutely for this one.

The perfect blend of sound and features
The Boombyte is an impressive compact stereo speaker with FM radio, Bluetooth, USB, headphone jack, micro SD card, equalizer for Bluetooth and battery life. As others have mentioned, the sound and loudness is much better than expected. You can easily switch between FM radio, Bluetooth and SD card options. I am using a 32GB memory card and it shows all the various folders and songs. While the SD songs are being played, the name of the song shows. The reason for only 4 stars is I wish the on/off was a button to press and the volume control would have up and down volume buttons. The on/off and volume control switch on the Boombyte is a little old fashioned. For those who wish you could use Bluetooth headphones/earbuds, there is a way. I have a 3.5mm wireless Bluetooth audio adapter transmitter (Reiyin WT-01 Bluetooth 4.1 Audio Adapter 3.5mm Wireless Transmitter for TV, MP3; $19.99 on Amazon). I have 2 different sets of Bluetooth earbuds that paired easily and works with FM, Bluetooth and SD card. I have no regrets having purchased the Boombyte speaker.

Love random play feature
This is a very nice, Bluetooth speaker. Of course it is small, so the bass isn't exceptional, but surprisingly the sound is pretty loud, for its size, and the music is crystal clear. I especially love the random play feature, something many manufacturers don't care enough to offer. Who wants to hear the exact same mp3 songs, in the exact order every time? Ridiculous!

Great little radio
Have been using this for the better part of a year. Really impressed with the sound quality and reception. A lot of the games for my local teams are not on TV due to fun contract disputes. So I have to step back to the 70s and listen to them on the radio - imagining what's going on with the help of our great local sportscasters - the sound quality of this Avantree helps a lot. The kids also are impressed with the sound quality of the musical radio stations they listen to. The sound carries quite well. The sound is louder and clearer than I'd hoped. The battery lasts quite a while - like two months of solid use averaging 30 minutes a day - before needing a charge. The radio is super portable and has a high quality look/feel. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I don't regret the purchase.

Impressive sound and great FM reception, but a few user interface quirks that are annoying
I'm pretty pleased with this radio. The FM reception is excellent despite it not having an external antenna. The sound quality out of such a small radio is quite impressive -- lots of bass, but not at the expense of decently clear mid and upper ranges. It's easy to set up, and the 9 storable station presets are handy to have. I like that you can directly enter a station by entering the frequency without having to use the seek button. I've not used it as a speaker with an SD card so I can't speak to how well that works, but as a portable radio it has been performing very well. There are a few irritations, however. The on/off button also is the volume control, which is not convenient. I would have much preferred a separate on/off switch. The on/off/volume knob doesn't have a good feel to it. Having clicks or indents would have been nice. While setting up the station presets is simple, using them can be a bit annoying. If the screen is off, the first press of the preset button wakes up the screen. You then have to press the preset button again to change the station. There's also a delay of a couple of seconds from the time you press the preset and when the station changes. It does this since the keypad is also used to direct enter a frequency, so the radio has to pause to determine if you want a preset or if you're entering a frequency. But all of these issues are secondary to the fact that it pulls in stations great, sounds fantastic, and has great battery life. I'm happy with the purchase -- 4.5 stars
