Works good…..but
This lens works really well but not really with the neewer case. I used the neewer case for about 3mths, I have since switched to the tilta Khronos case. With the neewer it was just a lil off so it had a hard time focusing, I got the 17mm attachment for my Khronos & it works beautifully!

Handy portable zoom kit addition
I have a Pixel 8 Pro. While I also have a full frame Sony alpha 7r4 camera, I often find myself using my phone for casual and portable photography…”the camera you have with you…”. I was interested in how this Neewer rig would work for me. I have the Neewer Pixel 8 Pro camera cage with the 17mm threaded backplate compatible with the Neewer HD 17mm telephoto lens. I am also using the Neewer Bluetooth attachable handle and shutter trigger, although this is not necessary. I like that trigger extension for handling, carrying, and somewhat easier picture taking. My first use showed observations specific to the Pixel 8 Pro and the use of the Neewer cage and lens. The 17mm threaded cage plate for the Neewer blocks the middle macro lenses on the back of the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel based 50 MP and digital telephoto lens are still available. During use, the phone will try to switch to macro mode with the Neewer telephoto extender attached and the screen will blank out (even intermittently as the phone tries to find the right lens and focus mode). When that macro symbol pops up, you need to touch it and disable auto macro mode. The other thing to know is that the Pixel switches from the 50MP lens to the internal telephoto lens at 5x, so for maximum optical telephoto range with the Neewer telephoto lens you need to stay at 4.9x. If you jump to 5x and above you move to the alternate lens and a digital telephoto mode not the optical mode provided by the external telephoto lens. For best image quality, lock and set the Pixel camera mode to HD 50MP image quality, otherwise 2x2 “pixel binning” (a common form of image compression) is in play. The first question that comes to mind is when you are using the Neewer telephoto lens “what is your actual zoom?” Pleasingly, established with a comparison of the optical lens and the internal Pixel digital telephoto, the max appears to be 7x added to the maximum (Pixel) optical throw of 4.9x. It is additive not multiplicative, adding 2.6x more to the maximum provided by the Pixel, about 12x optical. While I am a full frame camera person, this kind of optical math confused me, thinking maybe it was multiplicative rather than additive but some test pictures between the Pixel 4.9x and with the Neewer add-on convinced me it could not be 28x optical! The second question is “do I need a tripod” when using a telephoto lens. At most zoom ranges, the answer is generally “Yes, you need some form of stabilization for optimal focus.” Cellphones are harder to handle than a camera, and harder to keep steady. And, TAKE NOTE (!) using this lens requires MANUAL FOCUS. Auto focus just does not work. I found that at greater distances you can focus once and mostly go (see my deer images), but closer in you needed to stop and focus. The Neewer cage will allow the attachment of a tripod or mount plate with standard mounting screws. You can get by with a small portable (cheap) tripod that you could position against your body to get some stabilization, but it is not always ideal. That said, if you back off on the zoom you can get decent pictures without a tripod. The third question. Does it take good pictures? Generally, yes. Certainly, the additional optical zoom is appreciated. Focus, as noted above is always a concern. Direct comparison shows optical zoom photos with the telephoto Neewer do not fall apart when viewing and zooming in on a finished image as readily as the digital zoom (5x and above) lens provides. Optical clarity was good. Depending on the background, some contrast fringing was observed, but I was satisfied with the results a majority of the time. One thing I really liked about using the attachable lens in the field was that it is easily removed and pocketed, especially if you wanted to pull the Neewer backplate off to use the macro function on the Pixel. Is it worth it? I think it is. It certainly adds a bit more to your portable kit, and is something you can have with you more easily than a full-size camera. For hiking? Perfect. For certain wildlife photos, specifically birds… I still prefer my full frame auto focus, quick to use and handle “without a tripod” Sony a7r. 4/5.

Ok
It works pretty good except for a hallo affect and a glare that seeps in the corner.Be aware if you are taking it off and on by unscrewing it, it leaves dust on your lens. Paint from the threads wearing off.

First Neewer product I've ever returned or even been disappointed with.
I hate to write a bad review for a Neewer product because I have lots of their stuff and am extremely happy with all of it, except for this lens. I bought this lens to use with my Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it was mounted using the Neewer PA042 phone cage, which I like and kept. The lens itself feels very well made. It’s sturdy and feels very rugged. It threaded onto the mount plate easily. The first problem with this lens is that since you have to mount it on the main camera and should only use it with a 1 or 1.1x zoom. Not catching this in the in description of the product is my fault, it is clearly stated. But since my phone has a native 10x optical zoom, this actual 7x zoom is a bit redundant and unnecessary. My intention was to use it on top of the 50mp camera that has optical 5x and 10x lenses. That’s a no-go. It can only be mounted over the camera that has a max 2x optical factor. This camera has a 200mp sensor, so if the image quality was good, I would have kept the lens. But that’s not the case. The image quality was very bad. I can best liken it to a lens that is clean in the center, but has smudges radiating out to the edges. Or a bit like if you zoom while taking the photo on a DSLR. In the example photos I’ll post with this all the images were made with the phone mounted to a tripod and using a bluetooth remote to take the photo. So it’s not a matter of the camera moving. For medical reasons I didn’t get to test this lens out before the Amazon return window closed, so I worked directly with Neewer to return it. And they were very helpful and even requested detailed feedback on this lens after they agreed to allow me to return it. However, it’s been almost 2 months since I returned it and have yet to receive a refund or credit. I think buying it from a 3rd party vendor through Amazon but returning it directly to Neewer is causing some issues with the refund. I will say that they are very responsive to every email I’ve sent. I don’t think it’s ever been longer than 24hours. And it’s either some really good AI, or I’m talking with a human that is actually reading my emails. No canned “one size fits all” responses. As I said before, I really like Neweer as a company, and have bought items from them after buying this lens, and will continue to do so in the future. BUT I will take caution and do more research before buying any sort of lens from them in the future. As a side note, when I bought this lens I also bought the magnetic 67mm mount and two ND filters as well as the side handle grip that all mount onto the phone cage and I am very happy with all of them.

Great lens
Great lens

Looks great but....
Difficult to thread on and camera gets confused and switches between lenses making it impossible to focus.

The proof is in the moon shot 😉
I know many, like me, are obsessed with taking pictures of the moon with their phone. The first pic is with the S24 Ultra's super telephoto. It's not very crisp at all. The 2nd is with the Neewer 7X telephoto. A marked improvement. You must mount the phone, with the lens attached, on a tripod to get good results. Either trigger it remotely or with the camera's shutter timer.
