I believe sponge filters are the best you can use in your tank, it is a great and simple technology with less moving parts to worry about and the filter cleaning could not be easier. All you need is an air pump and if you only have one outlet and already have an air stone, why not consider splitting the tube with a 2 way adaptor and sharing the load. These filters are pretty well shrimp safe and catch a lot of mess from your tank. Great all round product.

Sometimes it's the simplest things that work best and the same can be said for aquarium filtration. Though if you keep poopy fish such as plecos, be ready to vac your tank more often as you won't get the same uplift of such debris as you would a powered filter but I find generally, this type of filter easier to maintain. It is fairly bulky, but nice and quiet.

Take this review with a pound of salt. When I ordered this, I did so with the intention of setting up a tank for brine shrimp. That didn't happen, so I've got the item and it's in the box. But I keep getting nagged about rating the darned thing, so as far as I know it's perfectly fine and acceptable. For all I know it could spontaneously combust like an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. At some point I will get around to putting the tank together, but it won't be anytime soon and the emails nagging me were too annoying. So here's my review: it arrived, it looks like it did on the laptop, but it is bigger than I expected it to be. What can I say? Great service, just not in use yet.

Haha sorry about my fish in the photos but i have 2 of these in my 550l tank along with a canister filter but since i added the 2 of these sponge filters water levels are all perfect and plenty of oxygen fish love them but be careful with any small fish they dont go down the tubes but other than that amazing

The filter was delivered on time. Not particularly good quality, base comes off very easily and so does the tube at the top.Bought Boyu products before (aquarium stand which was awful) so should of known really.

Seems well made, is a good size, not too intrusive in our 90l tank. We are using as an extra to our HOB filter as we can't add a pre filter to it and we don't want to be buying replacement filter cartridges for it every 5 minutes (Marina i160, came with tank)
