does the seat come with everything to install it

Yes!!... it is really easy to install it... you even have a ruler printed in one side of the box to measure your seat to verified the size. Inside it comes with all you need!!...

Is the lid sturdy enough for a man of 185 pounds to sit on or is it so light weight it cracks when you sit on it with the lid closed?

The seats are more than strong enough to sit on with the lid up, but I wouldn't risk sitting on it with the lid closed. Bemis seemed to use the bare minimum amount of plastic in making the seats. I would have been happy to pay $5 - $10 more for the same seat if they would put more plastic in it.
