Mick Dolan's books are just plain old fun reads
After having read Mick Dolan's two "Travels With Surly"--his trip across the U.S. and a subsequent return to the states to ride Route 66--I almost feel as if he is a friend. He is a truly likable individual. Mention of politics was minimal (I was very thankful for that), and his descriptions of the people he met along the way were delightful. He paints such interesting word pictures that you almost feel as if you are mounted on his Surly Long Haul Trucker with him.

Love following Mick's adventures. I also recommend Travels with Surly. Both great reads.

Like riding into a headwind.
Enjoyable enough, but not riveting. I’ve done my share of long distance touring including a 2300 mile jaunt, so hats off to his efforts and exploration. The book just didn’t keep my interest. Sometimes exploration just doesn’t translate in print. I flatted halfway through the book and didn’t finish it.
