I recently installed the GuDoQi Double Beam IR Detectors on my gate pillars, connecting them to an ESP32 board in my smart home setup, and they've exceeded my expectations.Installation and Setup:The installation process was smooth and straightforward. Dual Photoelectric detectorIt arrived next day. There was no packaging. The box was for 6 different detectors mine was marked ABT-100 which is the 100m outdoor 300m indoor model. The transmitter and receiver units were much bigger than I expected at 171mm x 77mm x 82mm. It came with two brackets and screws but no power supply or audio or light alarm (except the set-up led). The brackets were included to bolt the units to 38-50 mm diameter poles. The installation guide was one sheet of A4 so the text needed me to use a magnifying glass to read much of it. To separate the cover from the backplate requires loosening a screw a few turns, but not removing it, and tilting the bottom away from the top. I was concerned that there was no sealing gasket so I suspect it will be prone to getting water inside unless the units are mounted under cover, in open boxes or with mastic around the edges. Perhaps I’ll make gaskets but just taping over the joins with black electricians PVC tape should be sufficient. The text is a poor translation of Chinese. One instruction was “Observe the collimation effect at a distance of 5cm from the viewfinder.” From my O level physics days I remembered that this meant that I should observe parallel rays. But why I thought. Surely the optics of the units were fixed as parallel beams. Both the transmitter and the receiver units have two collimation holes and two viewfinder holes. But they are not viewfinders in the normal sense. Perhaps I’ll get the significance when the units are powered up. I tried to get an indication image on a white sheet of paper. There was nothing visible so I don't understand what they are trying to tell me. Both the transmitter and the receiver units have screw adjustments to tilt the beams. Left/right panning is just by hand. They both require 10.5 to 24 Volt DC power supplies The maximum specified range requires 24 V at 65 mA. Elsewhere on the sheet the lower range is achieved with 13.8 V and elsewhere 13V or higher. For protection against dew and frost a “calefaction” housing (optional) is required. I had to look this up. Calefaction means heating. Just including a 1 Watt resistor across the power supply terminals would do the job, but as they take 56 mA at 24 V which is 1.5 Watts, that should keep them warm enough. Setting up requires a test meter apparently. “Insert the test pen in the test hole”, means insert the meter test probes into the test holes. “If it can’t reach 3.5V or higher the transmitter and receiver shall be regulated again”. I think they mean “should be readjusted to align pan and tilt angles”. Apparently the receiver response time has to be adjusted but no adjustment has been provided. “Make the signal reception reaches its top”. I assume this means adjust the pan and tilt angles of both units to maximise the test meter voltage reading. It is claimed that the beams are pulsed. This removing the effect of the changing ambient daylight changing the amount of light being received. Thus the sensor does not just respond to the amount of light falling on it, it only responds to the pulses of light received from the transmitter. However the receiver unit should not be mounted facing the sun or other lighting. The alarm output is either NO (normally open) relay contacts or NC (normally closed) contacts. I don’t want to provide power at both sides of the driveway so I plan to experiment mounting them side by side with a reflector at the opposite side of the drive. I tried this in the lounge with a mirror at about 4m (total beam path length 8m). It worked, but it was tricky to aim as the beam is not visible even on white paper. I will try my mobile phone camera which detects infra red light. I have several old 12V power supplies that I can use. I need to make up a buzzer. There are lots of doorbell buzzers available on Amazon but they tend to be either 3V or 4.5 V. I will use an Amazon DC to DC converter to get the required voltage and current.

I try to avoid Chinese trash but needed these after an ‘incident’. I have to say I can only compliment them although at the time of writing they haven’t endured the harshness of a U.K. winter so that’ll be the ultimate test. They do need you to be competent with electrics to install but once up-and-running they do exactly what they’re supposed to. I have them triggering a relay which sets off a bank of high powered floodlights to deter any unwanted scumbags who lurk in the shadows like parasites just waiting to steal anything they can get their filthy little scumbag hands on!UPDATE - so we’re approaching the end of Feb and Spring is in sight so they’ve endured a British winter. No issues whatsoever, continue to perform very well. They are a bit large compared to many other brands but that’s an observation NOT a complaint. They’ve been through storms, relentless downpours and pretty cold weather but I’m impressed 👍

Works better than I thought it would. Pairing both is super easy to do using build in viewfinder on each device. Set up both using viewfinder - perfect first time. Confirmed with Volt meter 4V. Will ne buying 2nd one to cover the rest of the house. Highly recommended.

problems getting it to work.

This is actually an excellent product. We have set this up in our back garden as a security measure and connected to a very loud siren which informs us inside if there in an intruder that crosses the garden. It hasn’t failed or sent a false alarm once always works if we accidentally cross the beam. Very good piece of kit
