Great fit !!!
I bought this item from Amazon after 4 trips to the hardware store with no luck. This kit is an older version of the toilet flush valve system. It was easy to install and my toilet works perfectly since I got this kit.

Good Product
Good product still working. I think it took a week for the seal to completely seal. Easy to install.

This flapper valve worked on my 70 year-old, one-piece American Standard toilet...
Why did you pick this product vs others?: It was the only product that would work to fix my 70 year-old, one-piece American Standard toilet. I bought one to try it and actually smiled when it fit and worked. Removal of the old part was a little problematic as the screws were corroded, but using a power drill, instead of a hand screw driver, to gently turn the screws and tabs helped. A Korky universal fill valve worked fine. I will now purchase two more of these flapper valves and rebuild the other two toilets I have that are the same. Design: Although a little different from the original part, it fit nicely and performed well. No leakage. One thing I would change is slightly enlarging the flapper drain hole (in the tube end opposite to where the chain attaches) to allow the flapper to close faster and waste less water.

Hard-to-find parts for American Standard toilets
American Standard toilets made in the 1950s had a unique flush valve. A bronze ring served as the valve seat. It attached to the bottom of the tank with three bronze "fingers". Over the years the flush valve parts would wear and the toilets would leak. This kit replaces the bronze valve seat with a plastic one. It includes the rubber disk valve and the timing cup, a float assembly which holds the valve open long enough for the tank to empty. If you're one of the few people left in the country who had one of these one-piece American Standard toilets and the tank is leaking this kit is what you need. There are aftermarket flush valve kits which include the disk and float assemble but they seldom work well. American Standard made several slightly different versions of this flush valve and it's difficult to get the disk and valve seat to align properly. That's why you need the complete flush valve and seat.

Requires modification (easy) to work with som AS toilets
American Standard has engineered the Lever-Valve interaction, by design or accident, to make substitution of generic parts very difficult . This unit CAN be made to work by biasing the float cylinder with a number of lead fishing line weights (about 1/4 to 1/2 oz. total)- but the drain hole in the cylinder must be shielded by a small plastic cap (from a ketchup bottle perhaps) notched in the sides to allow flow for drainage but shielding the drain from blockage by the lead weights. A few minutes work but probably worth not paying the"ransom" for genuine AS parts
