From novice to green-thumb with permaculture!
This book has been my gardening sidekick, and it's transformed me from a gardening novice to feeling like I can conquer anything in the garden. What struck me is how it starts from ground zero. No assumptions about what you know – it breaks down permaculture and gardening into bite-sized pieces that anyone can grasp. Even cooler is that you don't need a huge garden or a fat wallet. It's all about working with what you have; this book shows you how. The bonus sections on companion planting, guild planting, and composting are like having an extra set of gardening tools. They're thorough and practical, just like the rest of the book. The only downside? I wish I'd discovered this book earlier! This book is your secret weapon if you're even remotely interested in growing your own food or creating an eco-friendly garden. It's changed how I look at gardening, and I love every minute of it.

Great for both beginning and experienced gardeners
This is a beautifully organized and well written intro to the principles and practices of the Perma world. Written in a super friendly and folksy voice, there is plenty here for both beginning and advanced gardeners. At over 700 pages this May will be a new Bible for “permies”.Starting with the premise that Permaculture is simply working with and replicating nature, the book defines 12 core principles and continually references them throughout the text. While the book does build on itself, the detailed table of contents allows you to go directly to your area of interest as well. Each chapter ends with a wrapup section that reviews what we’ve learned and introduces us to the next topic. There are very well written chapters on beginning concepts like garden planning, container gardening, soil building, seed planting and caring for plants. For more advanced gardeners there are great sections on introducing animals into your ecosystems, worms, harvesting and preservation, pests and diseases, greenhouses, compost, rainwater collection, and more advanced soil management. As a second year gardener, I find permaculture philosophies and practices appeal to me - before I even heard the term permaculture I knew this kind of harmonious gardening was a good thing for people and for the planet. Wherever you are in your gardening journey this book will help you take next steps to understanding and implementing Permaculture in your own garden. Thank you to the author and looking forward to the next book!

Comprehensive and entertaining book on permaculture
This an extremely well-written and engaging book on permaculture. It tells you anything you need to know and encourages readers to start planting whatever their plot might be. It’s a book young not just read once but to come back to look at principles and practicalities. A highly recommended book.If the author ever considers producing a second edition, please add photographs; consider making a separate coffee table version.

lots of information, no cult, no pressure
I am not totally new to Permaculture and was intrigued by how Josie would approach this and I was not disappointed. A friendly and humorous way of writing, stripping the Permaculture from 'this must be perfect' and giving a lot of tips on how you can start and then improve. I specifically enjoyed the chapter about soil, because it all starts with your soil and that is where some other Permaculture masters lost me because they recommended complicated soil tests that are just not available in my area. This one is easy to follow and with stuff you have at home! Highly recommend. Lots of links to further reading as well, so you can read it from start to end or just use it as a reference and look up what you need just then. Well done Josie!

Love growing? Buy it…. It’s a must!
This is a great book and I loved reading it. I have been looking into permaculture for while now and read a couple books etc…. But this book encompasses everything that I have learnt (and so much more) in an easy, logically laid out way - with humour. I love the writing style (who says gardening books should be boring?) and I have learnt so much. I would say it is a great beginners book and intermediates, but even a knowledgable permaculture-er can still learn from this book. This is the sort of book that I will keep to hand and keep referring back to it. I love the whole “eco system” principles and nothing goes to waste. There are so many great tips (that I would never have thought of) and the info is suitable for people that want to grow in a small patch in their garden or on a much larger scale. Defo, my new fav gardening book :)
