The Marvelettes was Motown's first successful female singing group and responsible for the company's first #1 hit, "Please Mr. Postman". in the late 80's, a reunited version of the group joined British producer Ian Levine's massive Motown reunion Motorcity Records project. This compilation focuses on their most popular tracks recorded for the label. All tracks have been newly re-mastered.
P**T
Something old is new again....sort of.
Frist off, these are not the original Marvelettes....except for Gladys Horton, the lead singer. This was a quickly put-together group for this recording by Ian Levine. Prior to this one, there was another recording and different members, though, that one had Wanda Rogers, an original....though, Wanda was in tough shape by that time and whispered through some of the old songs. Back to this CD....not bad for what it is. Gladys still sounds great vocally. The songs are 'OK'....nothing really stands out. These are some of the last recordings before Gladys passed away. I bought it for nostalgia's sake, but, have enjoyed it for what it was.
