Love that it has the factory look to it and the price is amazing. I used ForScan to program this to my truck since I had only one key. You have to be a little careful on these older trucks, if you don't have two physical keys you have to use ForScan to erase the existing keys from the system and reprogram your one existing key and the new key. If the transponder is damaged it may not program correctly. If you have two programmed keys in hand there's a process outlined in the owners manual that allows you to add more to the system without having to connect with software. Review: Works great for my 2000 Dodge Dakota - In case you're obtaining these and currently only have one to copy. I used these instructions (for my 2000 Dodge Dakota) to program two more... And it worked out just fine. Dodge key reprogramming: Enter your vehicle with your key. Consider using a timer or reliable watch for the following steps. If you use a timer, program it for 10 minutes, 30 seconds. Insert the Dodge Dakota key and turn it to the "On" position. Start your timer. Turn the key back to the "Off" position when the time elapses. This must be done within 45 seconds of the timer going off. If you are using a timer, reprogram it for an additional 10 minutes and 30 seconds. Start the timer again and turn the key to the "On" position. When the countdown is finished, turn the key to the "Off" position within 45 seconds of the time elapsing. Program any additional keys by putting a programmed key in the ignition and turning it to the "On" position for five seconds. Return it to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition. Place the additional blank key in the ignition and turn it to the "On" positions for five seconds, and then to the "Off" position. Turn it once more to the "On" position and it will be programmed to start your car. If Your Key Won't Program Contact a reliable automotive locksmith. This is best done through a professional organization such as the Associated Locksmiths of America. Bring the key to the automotive locksmith. Remember that there is frequently a substantial discount for every additional key you would like to have programmed after the initial key. This is typically not the case with the dealership. Test your key in your ignition. If it does not work, then the key needs to be reprogrammed. An automotive locksmith should do this for free until you have the right encoding for your key.

Works, looks, and feels like OEM
Ordered two of these for an 2002 F150, local locksmith cut them, and I was able to add them to the truck using the key-cycle method. They work great, will buy again if needed.

Read the specifics, then proceed with confidence!
As of my purchase, there's a very clear set of compatible models listed and detailed instructions about programming. All good. Lots of the fluff questions and comments here seem to be from people who can't or don't read. My case: I had two keys and wanted this as a backup in case I lose one (again). $10 to buy, $3 to have local store cut the key, and programmed myself in minutes HUGE savings (compare to $80 to $200) and SUPER EASY. My one tip for programming besides read the very clear directions: don't be frantic. After turning to on position, wait a second or two for the Theft light to turn off before you turn the key off and continue to cycle through the steps. If you don't have two known keys already, you're going to be working with someone who has the fancy vehicle computer interface and paying for the privilege. Some of the odd shops with great prices may clone your good key rather than program a new unique key, that is inferior and does not give you two unique keys that you can use to program a third one. Your call. I don't know if you'll save a few bucks bringing your own cut key to the dealer to get the programming done for your first and/or second key. You can sort that out. But after that dust settles, I sure as heck would get one of these inexpensive DIY ones for a backup third key so you can always save yourself after you lose one.

Programmed on first try using Forscan on my 2003 Excursion. Got it cut for free at Home Depot
Programmed on first try using Forscan on my 2003 Excursion. Got it cut for free at the big orange store. A bit pricey compared to some, but worth it to get an OEM key that will work. I only had one key, so I had to use Forscan and didn't want to risk using a cheap knock off that could leave me stranded. This key did not disappoint. Programmed on the first try using the erase and reprogram, which is what I read you needed to do. Just selecting program a new key doesn't work for whatever reason. Home Depot cut it for free, if they have a hard time they need to put the key in and select "not a transponder key". It will then cut it perfectly fine. Now that I have 2 functioning keys, I can try the cheaper options and use the owner's manual instructions.
