7803S FJM Security 4-Dial Combination Cabinet Lock, 1 Pack, Chrome

So one of my little projects today was to replace my mailbox key with a combination lock. I had originally looked for a mailbox lock that would have a small battery and a Bluetooth to connect to my phone but I couldn't find anything like that. I did find an electronic lock that let you enter an up to 15 digit code where each digit went from one to six. This intrigued me but there was no information on what would happen if the tiny battery died. I would hope that you can replace it from the outside but I just wasn't ready to go that route. This lock is completely mechanical so there's no batteries to die.Basically there's four dials that you can set from 0 to 9 to create your own private pin number. If somebody really wants to take the time to try all 10,000 combinations in the hopes of running off with my junk mail they're more than welcome to. In fact, let me know when you drop by and I'll bring you a bottled water because I know how laborious that can be.Anyway, the instructions say that you should hold a pin in with a paper clip while you dial the new combination in. I found did the paper clip wasn't easy enough to hold while I was busy dialing the new combination. I tried with a very smallest Phillips head screwdriver I had but that wasn't small enough to depress the tiny pin in the reset hole. The little awl in the second photo was just perfect.The lock assembly came with the long straight piece in the second photo and it worked fine but left the door slightly loose when locked. You wouldn't be able to get anything out and the whole assembly lock and door are robust enough that you couldn't break open the door with a flat head screwdriver if indeed you could get one to slide in. The new lock came with two additional pieces one being a very small piece in the photo that wasn't long enough to reach the side of my mailbox and the other a curved piece like the one on the lock I replaced. When I substituted that piece the door locked nice and tight and will keep any water out. In fact it's a better fit than my old lock.So why did I want to replace the lock you may ask. It turns out that I've replaced the locks on my house with Bluetooth enabled locks. This means I don't usually carry keys, except possibly a rental car key fob, so when I return home I have to go in the house to get a key to open my mailbox. Now that pesky little life problem is solved. I also think that the entire assembly is much more robust than the normal mailbox key assembly. That being said anyone wishing to break into my mailbox is going to be sorely disappointed because they could get 99.9% of my mail straight out of the garbage can if they had a little patience.

I bought this lock to replace a SnapSafe XL keyed lock box with a combination, because the lock had a 4-digit combination.This is a very sturdy lock with good directions for use.The lock shaft didn't quite fit into the hole in the SnapSafe (too tight), so I spent a few moments with a cordless drill and a grinding bit to make it fit. When I closed the box, I noticed that there was a small gap between the top and bottom of the box (enough to insert a flat blade screwdriver easily). I was able to shim the lock slot on the box to make the fit better. All of this is making me rethink my choice of SnapSafe box, but the lock is fine.

I really like this lock but it is a fair amount larger than the 3 dial versions so might not fit on your mailbox. Definitely check the dimensions before buying.

Got them installed but the combination lock did not work in terms of the personal code setting. There is a trick to turning the product until a button that is pushed is available. It just did not work after a huge number of tries. Now I have locks that do not lock. They actually don't work. I am bummed and I paid to have these installed by my RV service shop, so now I am stuck. Ugggh.

Heavy duty well made

Got the lock and it seems nice, heavy duty. But it did not come with any paperwork on how to reset the combination or what the current combination is. Will have to look online for instructions.

Works great on my snap on tool box and roll cart

I have been sent 2 locks that will not open at factory settings upon receiptI don’t know what is wrong but neither one works. I will send both back together

This cam lock retrofitted right onto my Mastercraft stainless steel cabinet just removed the key lock and installed this one now convenience is at my fingertips.
