Q: Is the case stainless steel, or some kind of base metal like brass?

Yes, the back is made of Stainless Steel. This is a quality watch and one of my favorites. I am constantly receiving compliments on it.

Q: Is the seconds hand moving continuously or jumping from one seconds mark to another?

Any quartz movement watch will have a seconds hand that will jump from one mark to the next. Automatic movement watches on the other hand will have a continuous moving seconds hand. Since this particular watch is a quartz movement watch, you can conclude that it's second hand jumps.
