It is Made in Taiwan under a U.S Patent #6,733,001. Despite that, it is an excellent tool better in my opinion that other similar models being sold today. One of my favorite tool purchases.

The value of this tool is that it uses leverage to enhance the grip on the head of the nail. But, unless it is a rugged nail, the extreme grip often damages the head of the nail.

Q: Is this tool designed to pull out nails holding down a cedar shake roof?

If you're looking to preserve the shakes, then no, probably not. The extractor will not grip a nail head that's flush to its surface, plus it will likely dent or split a wood like cedar upon pulling the nail. But if you're just pulling the shakes off and you're left with removing a bunch of nails that stick out of your roof deck a little bit, I think this tool is somewhat better than a pry bar. I love it and use it for many things.
