Product description NEW Combo BLUWAVS CD and FLAC FILE .com June Carter Cash is a country music blueblood through and through. As daughter of Maybelle Carter, a member of the pioneering Carter Family, her pedigree was well established; as wife and musical partner of Johnny Cash, her stature in country music lore was confirmed. However, with 1999's glorious Press On, her first solo effort in more than 25 years, she has made her own stellar contribution to the genre, one that sits comfortably alongside the work of her "aristocratic" company. Supported by warm and delicate acoustic strumming (from her own Autoharp as well as from Norman Blake and Marty Stuart among others), Cash proves herself to be an insightful and appealing songwriter capable of reconciling traditional themes with an acute awareness of modern times. One moment she sings of angels, family, and mortality, the next she blasts New York and Quentin Tarantino. Toss in a charming remake of her own composition "Ring of Fire," a powerful gospel duet with husband Johnny, and three Carter Family favorites, and the result is a lovely and expressive record that lives up to the promise of her esteemed names. --Marc Greilsamer

A Weed Among the Roses
This June Carter Cash CD has the same problem that I find with many country/bluegrass presentations. Folks don't ever seem to know when enough is enough. Here we go from the sublime to downright silly. Ms. Cash's version of "Ring of Fire" is simply the best rendition I've ever heard of that song and that includes anything her husband has done with it. Her plaintive, sorrowful singing with simple accompaniment goes straight to the heart. I could listen to her sing "Ring of Fire" every day. The A. P. Carter songs are, as always, wonderful. Most of the songs Cash wrote herself I find pleasing, particularly "Tall Lover Man" and "Wings of Angels." Then there is that awful "Tiffany Anastasia Lowe." I have no idea how anybody let her record that silly one.In Cash's notes she thanks more people than a supporting actress at the Oscars and is more self-indulgent, if that's possible. A blow-up of the sepia photograph of the Carter Family, apparently from Life Magazine is worth framing, however.Lest I sound too hard on Ms. Cash, I really don't mean to be. I have been listening to Maybelle and her daughters since childhood and love them and their music. It's almost as if a family member is performing. I just want them to be perfect. Finally, on this CD June sounds so much like her mother that it is eerie, in both her singing and autoharp playing. Her voice seems to have darkened with age into that beautiful alto that Maybelle did so well.Hey, this is still one of my favorite country CD's in a long time. There is an awful lot of really good singing on it. I would love to hear Ms. Cash do an all A. P. album too.

Totally diferent perspective
I never heard of June Carter Cash until this year. I heard her do "Will the Circle be Unbroken" when I purchased and watched the first season of Deadwood this year. So I bought the album that has that song because I really, really like that song; the song itself, the instrumentation, the wonderful and soulful singing, that recording has it all. So I listened to the "Press On" album this week a few times and I like it; I give it a 4. Beauty is in the ears and mind of the listener. Sorry Johnny Cash, A.P., Maybelle, and Sara but I never liked listening to your music, not at all. If it ever comes on the radio I'll still be turning it off. Although there's nothing on the "Press On" album that is nearly as good as "Will the Circle be Unbroken" I still like listening to the album and it will be listened to some more and not go in the circular file. The other tunes I like a lot on that album are "The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore" and "Tall Lover Man". I think it is a rare occurrence that I get an album and say I like everything on here; way more likely that I say: they could have left that one off. I don't know which one or two I would omit here; maybe I haven't listened to it enough.

June Carter, her daughter Rose and x-son in laws Rodney Crowell and Marty Stuart created a masterpiece with the old Carter Family vibe.

At home with June
For those who cherish and honor June Carter Cash as part of the American Heritage of music, this album is a must to own. One of the things that makes it such a delight is that it was recorded in the home studio of the family, and never overproduced. It feels like sharing some time in the living room with June, Johnny, and some good company. She passed shortly after making these tracks, and they a true legacy.

More, June, more
We found this because my wife remembered hearing "Far Side Banks of Jordan" at a concert over 20 years ago in Dwight Illinois. I did a search for this song to get for my wife. What luck that we found it and that you and Johnny recorded it. Having lost both of my parents within one year, this song is very helpful to me. I have many of the Carter Family recordings from long long ago and now I have yours which is also very special. I hope you do more of the same with folks like Marty Stuart. Thank you all very much.

Press on
I wanted to get the song Will the Circle be unbroken as I heard June Carter sing it in a movie I had just seen of her life. I also like the other songs on that album as well

Mir gefällt besonders: I used to be Somebody.
