I appreciate another reviewer mentioning their cat... We too used the larger box to bury our kitty. We woodburned her name on the box, and it came out beautifully.

I absolutely am in love with this box. It's something that I've been trying to find for years, namely simple, sturdy, inexpensive, wooden box for the easy storage of a large variety of items.The box is made of simple unfinished wood, but is splinter free, and very sturdy. The latches of a good design, and won't come open accidentally, while at the same time being easy to open. The hinges of the lid are of good quality as well, which is nice, since you don't have to worry about the lid suddenly closing and smashing your hands or fingers. I also appreciate the good center of gravity on the box, since it doesn't risk tipping backwards even when empty, which I very much appreciate when using for lighter items.If you want to, it's very easy to varnish the wood, or you can decorate it with paint, engrave it, use a wood burning tool, or anything else you can imagine. We are planning on making the decoration a family project, and I have a feeling it's going to be a blast.Ultimately, it's very telling that after getting this sample for free, I went back and bought second one, with plans for a third and fourth as well.An easy 5/5 stars. I love this box.

The sharp 90 degree angles and the precise mating of the lid with the rest of the box are amazing. The hinges aren't stressed and are in perfect alignment and the latch is perfectly mounted for preventing the lid from opening if inverted. Very well sanded inside and out. Responds to paint, stain, and varnish very well. I use mine as a night stand valet.

This box is solid, surprisingly large, and it's reasonably well put-together. It's great for a craft project. But there are two downsides. First, the lid fits quite tightly, which warps the hinges when it opens (see image). I suspect the hinges will break after a few months if you open and close it frequently. The other issue is with the latches on the front. The way they are designed, it is very tricky to open them once they've latched shut, and you really have to get your fingernails under the edges. But if the box is mostly decorative and is only going to latch it infrequently, this could be right for you.

I bought two of these for keepsakes for my two grown children . I have saved drawings they made me when they were very little and then older. I also saved notes and letters they wrote me when very young and then older . They are high quality and very well made. Far exceeded my expectations.

At the risk of being morbid, we used this as a casket for our beloved cat Rosie when she passed. She was a big girl and fit just fine. My daughter decorated it nicely.

Latches were flimsier than described. I would have paid a little more for something a little more stable. The return window time had expired or I would have returned it. I still will if they would allow.
