This pedal is really good
Don't worry about the hype. Biyang is top quality and its pedals reflect that. The Max Distortion is a very dynamic and responsive pedal. It's an excellent value for the price and will hold its own against the big boys costing two to three times as much. The sound is full and articulate. Not muddy or swamped down in overtones. Pair this up with the Mad Driver, and you will have a great team to drive your amp. Far worth it.

Good features and sound, not cheap, possibly flawed circuit design
First the PROS:The Biyang DS-10 Max Distortion is very low noise. I could set the gain to 11 o'clock, and you could barely tell the pedal was turned on. The enclosure is relatively compact, bit it is very heavy; I like that. The tone and gain controls are very responsive, and interact with each other well. The 3-way toggle switch is no gimmick. It produces very usable variations in sound. Pedal construction is good, although I cannot speak to durability or reliability...or can I?Now the CONS:I found a rather surprising and annoying problem with this pedal. I set the pedal's gain and tone pots past midnight, the toggle switch to the middle position (Bright), and the volume pots on my humbucker-equipped Les Paul all the way up. Strumming hard or playing power chords caused the pedal's circuit to go on strike. The volume started fading or cutting out intermittently, almost like the circuit was saturated or overloaded by the audio signal. I had to either play very softly or turn down the guitar volume pots for the problem to go away. I was able to replicate the problem at will, but only with the pedal's toggle switch in the BRIGHT (middle) position.Another CON of these Biyang pedals is the curse of the lame paint job. The paint jobs that the enclosures are given make them look like a small toy for a 5-year old. Seriously Biyang?!And price? Costing almost 40 bucks this is not a cheap pedal, and I have to insist on the fact that better pedals can be acquired for less $$ in the used gear market. Finally:I think that the sound is there for this pedal. It sounds good; period. I compared it to Joyo's Ultimate Drive, and this one is so much better and versatile to my ears. Is it worth 40 bucks? That is a tough question. Also, I don't know if the problem I encountered is in fact a design flaw, or just a defective unit. But I don't think I will order a replacement to find that out.

Like it better than my RAT
From OD to fuzzy distortion - great pedal!I guess this is supposed to be a RAT clone?(I like it better!) The whole baby boom line kicks! Fantastic tones for minimal bones!

It's a good clone at a good price
Putting together a new pedalboard. Yesterday I tested all my Rats and clones, dialing the knobs by ear to get a low gain, Zendrive/AC Booster type vibe. Just by sound and feel, tt was a dead heat between this pedal and my two vintage pedals. This pedal won because the knob ranges are easier to deal with. It's a good clone at a good price. I would recommend it to anyone.BTW I sanded the finish off just the front face of the box. I didn't like the graphics. It's an easy solution if anyone else is in this boat - love to hear it, hate to see it. Basically you just remove the nuts, drop the circuit out of the box, run the face of the enclosure over any sandpaper on a flat surface, belt sander, etc., and reassemble. I labeled the controls with sharpie. Not pretty, but at least it's not ugly anymore.I bought mine before the whole mini pedal craze and this was the smallest Rat clone you could get without building your own from a kit or DIY PCB. If I were shopping now I would at least try the Mooer Black Secret. It's smaller and it's also supposed to be a good clone. No clue about the knob ranges on that one.

Not very good in my opinion
not very versitile with different amps. This it's an okay pedal if your running through an american style clean amp with a 12 inch speaker but if you run it through a vox or british it sounds kinda bad, as those amps seem to magnify the pedals short comings. I used it through different amps and in my opinion it didn't hold up well. Single notes sound okay but chords sound bad. It can be rough thin and raspy. Maybe I got a bad one. You can go from over drive to full distortion but the gain and tone knob seem to not make any difference after 1 o'clock to maxed out. The toggle switch for normal warm and bright seemed unnoticeable at times, don't know if it just wasn't working at times or what. I bought mine for what I thought was a bargain turned out looking on popular auction sites showed I paid about average now I see why they go for less than half of the asking price. The marshall sound claim is a little too generous. I guess if you like a cheap sounding version of the ds 1 this might be for you. I compared this to my Speedbox from modtone that pedal smoked this it has better sound more balanced, the speedbox is smooth not harsh, the sppedbox can be put in front of any style amp unlike this pedal. The only thing that this has over the speedbox is the toggle switch but even that don't count as it doesn't work all the time and when it does it isn't noticeable other than bright makes the pedal slightly louder not brighter. In my opinion there are better distortion OD pedals in this price range, speedbox runs about 40 or less. I had high hopes buying this but sadly regret it now that I brought it home. I hope this company strives to make a better distortion od pedal.

Classic metal tone of the 80s Heyday
Great classic metal sound thats very adjustable for variations in tone similar to more famous distortion pedals of the past and it sounds good in stereo too with a y adapter on two amps or two channels of a pa system and the price is reasonable too!Ps check the youtube videos on this product and you will understand too!
