smelly laughs
This thing was the smelliest thing ever. I gave it to my in-laws as a gag, but my in-laws are old school and ended up eating it, even though it stunk up the whole house.

Horrifying — Not Fish, Just Rotting Mush
The media could not be loaded. This was by far the worst thing I’ve ever purchased on Amazon. I expected strong smell and taste — it’s surströmming after all — but what I received wasn’t even edible. When I opened the can, there were no fillets, no chunks, not even a single piece of fish. Just a disgusting, grayish sludge that looked like it had already been digested. You can see the picture — it speaks for itself. The texture was slimy and foamy, and the smell was indescribable — like a mix of sewage and decaying fish left in the sun. This is not a traditional delicacy, it’s a health hazard in a tin.Complete waste of money.

Get it for a cookout
You’ve seen the videos. It’s horrible. But not as bad as they make it out to be. It’s more salty than I expected. Crackers help.

Yes, you know what it is...
Was exactly what you think it will be. The can expiration time was the same as when we received it, and was so puffy it looked explosive, so we know it would be exciting to open. Once opened it continued to fizz like an Alka Seltzer tab in a glass of water. The taste? Salty. The texture? Hard Bones and mushy flesh. The smell? Imagine opening a soiled diaper, that had been wrapped in a plastic bag and left on the dash of a car in the middle of summer. For a week. Don't knock it 'till you've tried it...

No no no no
I bought two cans before and they were with fish. I was happy with the purchase. Delicious. This time the can arrived and when I opened it there was no fish at all. Not even bones like in previous reviews. Just some thick substance at the bottom. I am disappointed

Quality or safety issue?
I bought this as a fun / novelty item for the family to try at Christmas. So I understand it is fermented and supposed to be nasty. That is fine so long as it is safe to eat. I'm not sure if this can actually spoil, but when I opened the package there is a card stating that the can of fish is okay at room temperature for several days, but should be refrigerated beyond that. First of all, it took 15 days for the product to arrive from Poland. I'm not sure what kind of temperature it was in during that time, but there was nothing indicating that it was refrigerated during shipping. Secondly when I opened the package, the can was totally expanded outward. I'm assuming that was created by extreme pressure on the inside from further fermentation or spoilage. Again, I wanted to have fun with this knowing it was going to be gross, but I don't want for this to be an event where we all get food poisoning. I tried to initiate a return, but this is labeled a non returnable item. Understandable since it is food and came from Poland. But it was a pretty expensive purchase just to throw away upon arrival. Definitely not going to consume it now.

Full beautiful filets with BOLD flavor
The can was full of beautiful filets, none of them were mush (which I’ve heard is a common problem with these fish) they were absolutely bursting with flavor. They were well salted so be sure to use a high quality unsalted cracker. 10/10 core family memory maker!
