Percy Wynn : or, making a boy out of him . By: Francis J. Finn

The right book in the right hands
Father Francis Finn SJ, an early 20th century Jesuit priest, wrote some delightful children's stories about life in Jesuit boarding schools. This book, "Percy Wynn," is the middle chapter in the delightful Tom Playfair trilogy. Father Finn writes about various human personalities with warmth and humor culled from years teaching Catholic boys, and the retro elements of the story's setting only add to the charm. These little paperbacks (kudos to TAN for reprinting them) are ten times more fun than Charles Dickens and the other stuffy things teenagers must read in public schools. I'm only sorry it took me more than 30 years to discover them -- would've loved to have read them when I was younger.

he loved the book
I bought this for my 13 year old nephew, he loved the book. But about a year after having it the binding came undone. So there are chunks of the book just sitting in there, and we are hoping to not loose them! So we liked the book, but are very disappointed in the quality of the binding. And it was obviously too late to replace.

Typos all over, impossible to follow
We love this story, have an old Tan published copy. However, this copy is unreadable due to typos, poor punctuation and randomly sprinkled asterisks.

An excellent book for young boys and girls!
I have read and reread this book since I was ten years old, and always enjoyed it! And I have given it to my children and grandchildren to read, and they also have enjoyed it! It is a book that remains in time, as Louisa May Alcott books do. It is about life in a young boys school. I highly recommend it!

My teenagers love it
This book was by the request of my teenage daughter who read it in Catholic school and loved it. Once I got it home both her and my teenage son argued over wanting to read it first. Being it was offered at my childs school it must be a clean of profanity and things of adult nature and good for anyone to read.

Growing up in the 19th Century
A wonderful book for boys. I can remember reading it almost 70 years ago and purchased it for my grandchildren. In addition to telling interesting stories, it provides an insight into history and how people, especially young boys lived in the latter part of the 19th Century.

Useless reprint
The text in the book: has lots of mistakes, editorial errors, is not justified. That is why this book is useless - the reading is impossible!
