A great introduction to the most important aspects of handling money.
"Money Skills for Teens" is a great introduction to most of the important aspects of understanding, acquiring, and managing money. If its reccomendations are followed carefully, it will go a long way towards helping the young get a good start on their financial lives. It will help anybody to achieve and maintain prosperity and financial freedom over the course of their lives. One recurring theme was the emphasis on the need to periodically re-examine most aspects of your finances- budgets, goals, insurance coverage, and investments. The book advocates strongly for comparison shopping too. The chapters on making money, banking, budgeting, paying bills, and credit were quite detailed and covered many important aspects of those subjects. Chapters on investing, insurance, and retirement were not as comprehensive but still contained important basic details. The chapter on big purchases and paying for college proveded an overview of many sources of aid in paying for college. The chapter on making money seemed to contain a couple of errors in its tax information. Interest and dividends are taxed as ordinary income, not capital gains. And an employer's withholding calculations do not substitute for "doing your taxes". People under 65 earning more than $12,950 per year are required to file an income tax return. Taken overall, this book is an excellent tutorial on the important aspects of financial management, not only for teens but for people of any age.

I got this book for my 14year old. After a bit of reading she already started asking questions, like how she could do this and whether that idea would work. The author explains the different concepts of jobs, freelancing and entrepreneurship, which gets your teen thinking about options and opportunities. Going on your teen gets an idea about all the stuff you don't learn in school, like insurance, dept management, even retirement. So overall a great intro to the world of personal finance for the young mind.
