BeaverCraft Wood Carving Gouges Chisels Kit SC01 - Wood Spoon Carving Chisel Set - Whittling Tools Includes Radial Gouges, Flat Chisel, Bent Gouge, Leather Strop & Rolling Pouch

I recently decided to try my hand at bas relief and after exhaustively looking over a ton of different wood carving chisel brands I settled on this set from Beavercraft. The steel is some of the best I've seen for ages (I'm a carpenter and a lot of modern tool steel is rubbish). There is some flexibility and the edge can be maintained at scalpel sharpness with little effort. The chisels retain their edge through relatively prolonged use without needing any attention. They sit lightly in the hand (to be honest, so lightly that I was initially a bit dubious about the handle construction but my concerns proved unfounded). The chisel roll and strop are good quality, as is the sharpening compound it comes with. All in all, I am really pleased with my purchase and well done to these guys for producing such nice stuff at what is really a very reasonable price. I attached a photo of my first effort and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have turned out as well if I'd bought my kit from elsewhere. I look forward to many more projects with this kit and will certainly be checking out the other gear they are producing.

This is one of the worst tools I've ever bought. The blade is stamped out of poor quality metal and the point of the 'V' that should do the cutting is not even ground at all. Appalling and useless. Avoid.

Upon arrival every tool showed a small amount of rust around the engraved logo. Spoon gouge broke in the first 10 minutes of use. I was using very little force to carve the bowl of a spoon, but the shank is extremely small and very brittle. These things are truly not meant for anything but the lightest of use. I’d think you’d be ok if you were carving something as light as balsa wood, but anything tougher, and I guarantee you it will snap. Steer clear if your looking for something that can be used reliably. I will not touch Beavercraft items ever again.
