Good light-blocking potential. Instructions are poor in text and illustrations, but probably not needed.Each mounting bracket has 2 springs. On one bracket, one spring was out of it's channel. I couldn't see a way to replace it without risking worse damage, so I removed it. It functioned OK with one spring.The instructions describe a screw for adjusting roller tension that requires detaching the right side of the valance. There is no such screw but that function is apparently accomplished by a wheel on the right side that is easily accessible (see photo). Mine required no adjustment.The adjustment wheel makes it hard to center an inside installation (see photo). I mounted the shade as far right as possible but it still left a wider gap on the right than on the left. You can see this on other user photos.The 27.5” W shade I ordered really was 27.5” wide. The 30.5” W shade Amazon originally sent by mistake was really 30.5” wide. Amazon sent the replacement very quickly.This product is infinitely better than the “LUCKUP 100% Blackout Waterproof Fabric Window Roller Shades Blind” I had tried earlier.

I love these. I’ve bought a few of them now, the first one I bought several months ago and it still looks and works like new. My windows are not as deep as the recommended depth but I was able to use them anyway, just with only 1 screw instead of 2, and it’s still nice and sturdy. I like how it’s easy to remove them, makes cleaning easy. Also super easy and smooth to use.

I ordered a blackout roller shade from Calyx Interiors. I needed it to install on my door's glass, to keep the sun out in the mornings. I ordered one that is made of Polyester, and looks like the ones I often see in hotels. However, what I received was one made of paper, and looks like an accordion. And, it doesn't block much light.I really don't understand how Calyx Interiors could mess up my order that bad. The shade I got is not even closed to what I ordered -- it looks completely different, if you see the pictures I included.I'm sure I would've like the shade, if I had received the correct order. But, I just can't trust a company that messes up orders that bad.

I ordered a size 6 inches longer than my window frame. (Even longer than the window itself) and did an outside mount for optimal blackout. I work nights so my main concern was blackout not how it looks (it does look nice) as you can see even with 3 inches of overlap above and on either side there is a lot of light still coming through because there’s inches of space between the actual valance/blinds and the wall. This is the amount of light coming through early morning rainy day with general blinds closed behind it. (North facing window in Oregon in February so it’s really not up against a lot of light yet.)I think blackout curtains would have done a better job and looked nicer. But for the price it looks decent, did help, and it’s better than nothing. Just be warned that it isn’t even close to truly blackout.
