Great quality minus one thing
**Update. After leaving the previous review, SmallRig offered a full refund on the product. I have been a SmallRig user for a good while and fully support the products they make. Sadly it was something small in the design that made my setup not functional or make sense to use this setup. Not being able to spin the d tap plug is a bit frustrating. The direction the cable sticks out while being plugged in makes this not useable unfortunately. Previous d tap setups, I’ve been able to unscrew the end and flip it so the cable comes out the other direction if that makes sense.

—-mixed Canon R5C use case—-
Updated Canon R5C case: When the camera was turned off, “Err” instead of normal charging sign appeared a couple of times during a field trip in Canada. Ended up returning the dummy. —-original review We bought this dummy and SmallRig VB99 battery to power our new R5C. As a number of negative reviews are related to R5C but no success reported here, we started with caution by measuring its output voltage (~7.8v, good), testing it on two old Canon 6Ds (both worked well), then finally plugged in R5C, again it worked well in both photo & video mode. In addition, adding USB-C PD (powered by the same VB99 battery) enabled 8K 120fps video with autofocus. Thought just initial test results, I thought it could be useful to R5C owners since there are few positive cases reported. I might update the review after a field trip in extreme cold weather.

Works perfectly with V-Mount setup
I use the SmallRig D-TAP Replacement Dummy Battery for my Canon R6 Mark II, and it works flawlessly. It lets me run my camera off a V-Mount battery, which is a huge help for long shoots and weddings. Everything SmallRig makes feels high-quality, and this battery adapter is no exception — solid, reliable, and easy to use.

Lots of dead SmallRig dummy batteries!
I purchased several of these SmallRig "4253B" NP-FZ100 Dummy Batteries, based on their wide availability and all the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere endorsing them, for use in conjunction with Sony A7rIV and A7rV cameras. I also purchased replacement battery compartment covers for my cameras, which incorporate a small "hatch" designed to permit a dummy battery cable to exit the camera with the battery installed and the camera battery compartment cover closed. In purely mechanical terms, I can store a camera body, with one of these dummy batteries installed and the battery compartment cover closed, in a typical Pelican hard case equipped with padded dividers, without any undue contortion of the dummy battery cable. Everything seems to stay loose, routed under and out of a closed battery compartment cover and folded next to the camera body for storage within the case... with no apparent compression or "pinching", and the design of the dummy battery itself provides ample space under the battery compartment cover for routing the cable in this way. There are a couple of ~90-degree bends in the cable on its way under the compartment cover and out of the "hatch" in the cover, but there is no visible kinking in the cable or creasing in the cable housing, and everything had a little play, so I assumed "working as intended" and all was well. Pull the camera out (with a dummy battery permanently installed), mount it on a camera support, plug the dummy battery with its external cable into a D-tap/P-tap V-mount battery, and voila. That was the plan, anyway. However, I have been experiencing an extremely high defect rate in this style of application, in excess of 50% of these SmallRig "4253B". They simply cease to function within ~24 hours of first installing/testing/storing them in this way. Assemble for the first time, test (successful), put them away in the camera case, pull them out for use the next day... and DOA. Have to unpack and install another one. So, either I am experiencing an unusually high rate of "infant mortality" with these things intrinsically (as I say, in excess of 50%), or something about installing them in a camera, routing the cable out of the camera via a "special" battery compartment cover (designed for dummy batteries), closing the battery compartment cover, and leaving them that way is inflicting some form of terminal damage. Seems improbable that my (careful) treatment of them would constitute fatal abuse. Seems more likely that something about this particular make/model of dummy battery (design, materials, manufacture, whatever) is in some fashion "inadequate". So, I am going to store the camera without any sort of battery. I will store these dummy batteries separately. I will pull one of these dummy batteries out and plug it into the camera just before the camera goes onto the camera support in preparation for use. I will handle and operate the camera, throughout, with the battery compartment cover OPEN. I will try to avoid any chance of "contorting" the dummy battery cable at any point during use. (And I will keep a supply of standard Sony FZ100 batteries available, "just in case".) I will also source some alternatives to the SmallRig "4253B", and see if any of them do any "better" (i.e. are more tolerant of remaining in a camera, routed out of a "hatch" in a closed battery compartment cover). If multiple different parts of this kind, from different manufacturers, all fail... it will be easier for me to conclude I am doing something wrong. We will see how all of this goes. I will amend my review here if any of this generates different/better results. In the meantime, I really cannot recommend this SmallRig part ("One Star"/"Avoid"). It seems inexplicably "fragile".

Alles problemlos.
