A Kitchen Must-Have!
I absolutely love my Viking mixing bowls! They're incredibly solid and well-made, with a perfect weight that keeps them from sliding all over the counter while you're mixing. The non-slip silicone bottom is genius, really anchoring the bowl, and the wide, rolled rim gives you a fantastic grip. The Lids are perfect for popping the bowls in the fridge without using more dishes and saran wrap. They come in great sizes, nest perfectly for easy storage, and clean up like a dream. Honestly, they're durable, practical, and a fantastic investment for any kitchen. Highly recommend them!

ATTRACTIVE, USEFUL, AND WELL MADE
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: I prefer large bowls for the following irrefutable reasons: 1. Bowls don't hold as much as people think they do. Their rated size is based on the amount of liquid they will hold when filled right up to the absolute tiptop of the rim, not the amount people can actually work with comfortably. Trying to mix ingredients in a bowl more than 2/3 full is courting disaster. Upping to the next larger bowl size is always a good--and safe--idea. The same principle applies to pots and pans. 2. Anything that can be done in a small bowl can be done just as well in the next larger size, and probably the next larger size after that. Therefore, small bowls aren't really needed and tend to contribute to kitchen clutter. Their only socially redeeming value is possibly for storage, and other items are much better for that. Consequently, my experience says that the most, and only, useful bowls are the 3 quart, 5 quart, and 8 quart sizes. That's what I need, and that's all I've ever needed. However, bowl sets don't come in just those sizes, and very few include the most valuable 8 quart size. The Viking set does include an 8 quart bowl, however, and that brings us to their 5 bowl set with lids. Viking is a brand well known and respected in the restaurant business. The bowls are fairly thick without being too heavy to lift, as the same size glass bowls would be. Rims are about 1/2" wide to allow a good handhold and are rolled to avoid sharp edges. The shape of the bowls is what initially attracted me. Their profile is a modified U-shape with sides high enough to contain even the most energetic mixing, but not so tall that access for stirring is difficult. The bowl bottoms aren't narrow by any means, but being slightly wider would make them even more stable, which is true of every bowl, no matter what brand. Admittedly, this is a very minor point, and no one should have any trouble with the Viking bowls tipping. The bottoms are covered with a silicone cap, which keeps the bowls from clanking when they're set down on a hard surface. The silicone caps are advertised as keeping the bowls from sliding, and they do, but I suspect that most people hold onto the bowl when stirring and have more sense than to set one down on a very tilted surface, anyway. The lids are plastic, not silicone like the bottom caps, and push-fit snugly down inside the bowls. Some YouTube reviewers fill one of the bowls with water, push on the lid, and then turn the bowl upside down and shake it to show that the lids are watertight. At this moment I'd prefer that the lids fasten over the bowl rims instead of taking up space inside the bowl, but they fit down into the bowl only about 3/4", so it's not really an issue, and I suspect that more experience with the lids may eventually change my mind about their design. One thing I won't change my mind about is wishing that the entire set could stack inside itself with all the lids firmly attached. It does so nicely without the lids, but I'd prefer that all the lids could be attached. They don't miss by much, only by less than 1/2", and the largest lid can be laid but not installed on top of the whole set. Nevertheless, my OCD wishes that all the bowls and their lids could be sealed up tight into one unit. I suspect my compromise to keep everything clean and dust free in storage will be to stack the bowls, put all the lids inside the largest bowl except the 5 quart lid if they will fit, install the largest lid, and set the 5 quart lid inside a Ziplock bag on top. While the 8 quart bowl is admittedly large (12-3/8" wide), and it would be worthwhile to measure the space where you plan to store the whole set before you order them, it's noteworthy that the 8 quart Viking bowl is only about 1/2" wider than a Pyrex 4 quart glass mixing bowl, so the Viking 8 quart is only slightly wider and about 2" taller but holds TWICE as much as the Pyrex bowl. Plus, when I'm mixing things in the Viking bowl, I don't feel like I'm chasing the ingredients around the bowl like I do with the wide, flat-profiled Pyrex. Despite their being made of high quality steel, and even more so because of it, I recommend using non-metallic utensils with the Viking bowls. Metal will scratch metal, and the polished interior of the bowls is attractive enough to preserve. Non-metal utensils can be used on any surface, but metallic tools can and will damage any surface except glass. Stubborn stains can be treated with Bar Keepers Friend. FYI, don't marinate food in these bowls for long periods, because the acids in marinade will pit ANY metal, even stainless steel. Long marinades are what glass bowls are for. For the reasons above and even with the 2 smaller, less useful bowls, I highly recommend that you reward your intelligence with the Viking 10 piece mixing bowl set. EDIT: I confess that I used the smallest bowl to store some leftover food, so in all honesty I have to admit that the 2 smaller bowls do have some usefulness.

A mixing bowl set of quality, utility and style.
I really love this bowl set. as long time user of Viking kitchen products, I have been finding that their smaller kitchen products are also of the same quality and performance. These beautiful bowls are perfect sizes...I sue them all, even the smallest. The rubber bottoms make me wonder why I didn't get these sooner. And I love the measurement marks on the inside of the bowls...less measuring cups to wash. Finally, five bowls take up less space than the many odd bowls they replaced.

Really nice set of kitchen bowls - got sick of the plastic ones and wanted something more durable
I became very frustrated trying to clean and remove stains from our plastic mixing bowls and decided to toss them out and get something made of metal. These are very affordable and very solid - thick metal and definitely not flimsy. The lids are a nice bonus and make overnight marinating a lot easier - no plastic wrap needed, and the rubberized bottoms keep them from sliding around on our metal kitchen island. Cleanup is also easy since you can just drop them in the dishwasher. If these things ever wear out I'll look to to replace them with the same set, but that may be a very long time from now as they aren't showing any signs of wear at all.

Great quality for the price.
Bought these for my wife, because she asked for mixing bowls for Christmas. The quality is great! These have a sort of rubberized, non-slip bottom perfect for counter top use.

Great quality though a bit pricey.
The bowls are great. The tops actually seal, unlike other stainless-steel bowls with silicone/plastic tops. The non-skid bottoms also help protect the glass shelves in my refrigerator. They are a bit pricey but worth the extra money. The sizes are standard and meet the general needs in my kitchen. The bowls look great and feel sturdy.

Solid mixing bowls
Good weight, beautiful finish, durable, and I really like the coating on the bottom. It makes them quieter, and keeps them from sliding around. They nest together well, but as other reviews noted, they can be a mild inconvenience to get apart. The lids are my only complaint, they’re just not quite as good fitting as they could be. Don’t get me wrong, there fine, but let’s just say I wouldn’t trust them to turn them upside down with liquid inside them. Overall, despite some small flaws, I would absolutely recommend them.

Buy these!
These are amazing and so versatile. They are extremely well made. The anti-slip bottom works like a dream and the lids are easy to put on, remove, and store. The bowls nest which is great. They also stack securely in the fridge. I hand wash the lids, but machine wash the bowls and they still look great. Such a good value. My husband thought we didn't need them, now he doesn't know how we lived without them. The bowls are pretty enough to use as serving bowls for a casual meal.
