Computer Hard Drive Enclosures – M.2 SSD NGFF SATA 3 Compatible Hard Drive Enclosure – USB Type-C 3.1 and USB-A Cable – Heat Dissipating Air Channels, Extruded Alloy Design

I recently moved from a M1 Mac Mini to a Mac Studio. My Mini I had one of the Satechi hubs that had the M.2 SSD option internally. I was using that with my Mini as a backup drive. With the Mac Studio, while I could use that hub, I really didn't need it due to all the extra ports the Mac Studio comes with. As a result, I started looking for a M.2 enclosure for the WD Blue SSD that was in the Satechi hub. This was on the pricier end, but I did like the blue/grey look that it has. You can find others for about $15, so this is more than twice the price. I'm not sure it's worth it, really. I have had good experience with a couple other Dynon Metrics products, however.This drive comes in a basic cardboard box, that slides out with a plastic insert that holds the enclosure, the USB A to USB-C cable, and a screw. The enclosure opens by sliding off the plastic edge on one side, and then the logic board portion slides out. You insert the m.2, and screw in the screw. I do wish they'd included a screwdriver, as I feel that many other enclosures do. For the price, it could've been included, but it wasn't a bit deal. After plugging in the m.2 and screwing it in, I slid the logic board back in place, slid back on the plastic end portion, and was ready to rock and roll. Plugging it into my USB-A port on my Mac Studio showed the drive without issue. Speeds are what they are expected to be, and really the max this drive can perform.It does what it needs to do for me, so I'm happy with the drive. As mentioned, however, there are cheaper alternatives out there.

I ordered this to extract info from a laptop drive since the laptop died. Unfortunately it does not seem to fit my drive. See picture. If I line up the notch the drive hits the socket on the right side.

I am having a hard time installing it on my Chromebook. I am not sure if it works with Windows only but not for Google Chrome? I cannot have it set up but keeps receiving this message multiple times " This device cannot be opened because its filesystem was not recognized. "I wish it is as easy as the description claims " Easy to set up. " but it is not.

About four months ago, I was offered a free Dynon Metrics DM14 for review via the Amazon Vine Program, and I accepted.The Dynon Metrics DM14 is a high quality, SATA III NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) M.2 SSD drive enclosure. The DM14 does not work with NVME SSDs. For NVME M.2 SSDs, you need the DM15 model.Installation could not be simpler. Simply slide the end to open the enclosure. Side the board from the metal shell. Insert your SATA III NGFF M.2 SSD. Lock it with one of the pegs depending on the length of the SSD. Reassemble the board into the shell. Slide the end lock back on. Now you're ready to use your external, SATA III NGFF M.2 SSD.The rest is up to your operating system and whether you've already formatted and used your SSD or not. If it's a new SSD, Windows 10 will prompt you to format it after you first insert it. If the drive is already formatted, then Windows should recognize the volume and mount it.Overall, the DM14 is a good quality SATA III NGFF M.2 SSD drive enclosure. If you have an NVME M.2 SSD, you'll need the DM15 model.

Works great, easy to use

I needed to copy my drive and this did the job. However, I did find it a bit difficult to figure out how to get the bay open and then how to get is all closed up properly. I had some issues with fitting the drive properly and it took some fidgeting for me to get it to work.

Kein gutes Case.Die SSD reinzubekommen ist schon ein krampf, und gibt einem ein super schlechtes Gefühl. Habs mit einer billigen M.2 Sata probiert, das ging noch, aber eine NVMe ist quasi unmöglich. Dafür muss man deutlich zu viel Kraft aufwnden, und das ist es mir einfach nicht wert.Wenn man dann mal 'ne SSD drin hat, wird auch die Wärme schlecht abgeleitet, bzw. einfach gar nicht. Die SSD liegt drin und hat keinen Kontakt zum Case, auch liegt nichts bei um diesen Kontakt herzustellen (Pad?).Zu guter letzer ist Verschluss nur eine Plastikverriegelung... kann man sich denken, wie gut das hält.Für mich ist das Case n absoluter Reinfall, und z.B. im Vergleich zu Inateck Pendant einfach nur schlecht. Alles von mir angesprochene wird vom Inateck perfekt gelöst, Alucase, Wärme wird abgeleitet, sauberer Verschluss.1 Stern.

Mein Mann war so nett und hat die Festplatte in das Gehäuse gefummelt. Es war äußerstfriggelig, hat dann aber letztendlich geklappt.Bei mir wird sie dann auch als Datenträger 4 mit Fehler angezeigt. Ich soll die Platte entwederals MbR oder Gpt initialisieren, was beides fehlschlug.Zuerst blinkte das Gehäuse dabei grün, aber später war es aus.An einem anderen Rechner legte es gleich den USB Port und die Maus lahm.Für mich leider nicht nutzbar!

Dieses Festplattengehäuse für M.2 SSD sollte als meine neue externe Festplatte dienen, was es nun leider nicht tun wird.An sich tut das Case was es soll. Es lässt sich leicht öffnen, bietet Platz für eine M.2 SSD und kann mittels mitgeliefertem USB-C Kabel an einen PC angeschlossen werden. Sobald dies geschehen ist, signalisiert eine integrierte LED die Stromversorgung zum Gehäuse.Leider gibt es bereits beim Einsetzen der SSD Schwierigkeiten. Hier ist der mittlere Steg des Slots etwas zu dick, sodass die Festplatte mit recht viel Kraft in den Anschluss gedrückt werden muss. Ich selbst habe dafür mehrere Versuche gebraucht und hatte Glück, dass meine Festplatte dann gepasst hat. Bei anderen Herstellern könnte es aufgrund der Fertigungstoleranzen auch anders aussehen. Zudem ist es nicht angenehm, mit so viel Kraft hantieren zu müssen um die Festplatte einzusetzen. Hier sollte definitiv nochmal nachgearbeitet werden.Auch die Verarbeitungsqualität des Gehäuses lässt an manchen Stellen zu wünschen übrig. An vielen Alu- und Kunststoffkanten findet man leichte Grate oder scharfe Schnitte. Das USB-C Kabel lässt sich auch nur mit Widerstand in seinen Port stecken und auch der Rückdeckel zum Öffnen des Gehäuses ist nach wenigen Benutzungen ausgeschlagen und klappert.Die nächste Überraschung kam beim Anstecken an den PC. Das Board in dem Gehäuse pfeift leicht, sobald Strom anliegt. Außerdem muss die Festplatte (zumindest bei mir) erst im Windows Festplattenmanager initialisiert werden, was dann später eine Formatierung zur Folge hat. Will man also eine bereits befüllte SSD in das Gehäuse packen, muss man seine Daten vorher sichern. Dieses Verhalten konnte ich bei anderen Festplattengehäusen bisher nicht beobachten.Sieht man über das Initialisieren und die Qualitätsmängel hinweg, kann man dieses Gehäuse benutzen. Für den Preis gibt es aber auch andere Alternativen, die sicher vielversprechender sind.Deshalb gibt es hier von mir 3/5 Sterne und keine Kaufempfehlung.
