Conspicuous consumption
I already organise items by colour, so I expected to love this system. The basic principles (that it’s easier to put things away if everyone knows where they go and they look well organised when they get there) are good. The first book in the series explains this if you’re not already familiar with the concept. All the other books repeat the same ideas and don’t really introduce anything usefully new (looks like the authors are just cashing in on the concept). However the illustrations to all the books are unbelievable. Everything is clearly brand new and purchased in order to create an aesthetically pleasing display. Looks good on Instagram but not realistic. Would you need colour-coded boxes (all needing to be bought) for your kid’s toy cars if they didn’t have more cars than any kid can play with in the first place? Who needs 5 razors in different colours at once? Or multiples of the same style of broom, each in a different colour? (Some of these examples might come from a different book in the series). Lots of items are in too large a quantity for what’s actually needed (but unless in the US you can buy basic items in rainbow multipacks, there must be additional storage elsewhere for the unseen additional items). Many of the ‘before’ images - described by the authors in horrified tones - look like most people’s ‘after’.

My favourite of the series
I am a big fan of The Home Edit. I have all of their books. I've always been a colour coordinator. The photography is gorgeous. It is so inspirational. I love their sense of humour as well.

Absolutely love these girls and their Netflix show as well as what they do. A delightful and gorgeous book on how to organise literally every room in your house and keep it neat and tidy. Love it. A++++
