Initial thoughts (more to come)
Normally I detest people who write day 1 reviews as they are next to f***ing useless - I'm sure you've seen the hordes of reviews on amazon - Five stars, it looks great, five stars delivery was fast - I know what it looks like and I know delivery is fast, that's why I'm shopping on Amazon and looking at the pictures of the item!Anyway enough about my pet peeves on to the hoover!!! First of all I received a 1000w version, whether this was a mistake in the shipment or whether this was a mistake in the advertised product I don't know.Suction:One review I read said it hoovers up my ash but not the nails that are left behind after my wood is burnt. Great I thought, I can hoover up the sawdust around my mitre saw and sanding bench without it taking all my leftover screwdriver bits with it (because I like the challenge of finding stuff covered in a layer of sawdust rather than putting it back in the box kind of chap).Well not to dispute this good woman's experience (maybe she used hers with a bag whereas I'm using mine bagless) it's already eaten three spacers, two screws, a chunk of wood and my neighbours wig (he wasn't even in my house at the time!!)Seriously it has better suction than the black hole of Tartarus. Whether this will diminish over time as the bucket gets fuller I don't know, but I shall report on that at a later point. Make sure you're nailed down or you'll be in the bucket too, which only opens from the outside so how you'll get out I don't know.Portability:Immensely portable, weighs next to nothing like actually nothing, less than a 2 litre bottle of pop NOTHING!!!, Aluminium is a grand old thing and actually I can throw this around the place like nothing and hoover up anywhere the cable will reach to which is a decent enough length to do most things. It doesn't retract like on a Henry, but for £30 it works and what more do you want.Ease of use:Now here is where I have marked it down slightly and this is only on one minor point because it did have a slight issue that bugged me a little bit, this being that the metal nozzle goes in to the plastic nozzle and then the metal crevice attachment goes in to the metal end pipe, it wont go straight in to the end nozzle. metal in to metal attachments are a little prone to falling out sometimes and this one does fall out occasionally if you're not careful. It's not loose, just if you hit it against something or get a bit aggressive it won't like it. However gaffer tape or super glue will sort that if you aren't too bothered about it's permanency. But generally it is a nifty and easy to use hoover.Things to be aware of but aren't really terrible:Because the air blower is in the top which is essentially the air vent when you are vaccuming, if you are carting it around and vaccuming it can sometimes result in a blast of hot air to the face, so something to be aware of, especially as if you put it underneath your mitre saw to do the floor, it can just eject a lot of the material off the top. I'm now ever so acutely aware of the value of hoovering top to bottom!Furthermore it's a taddly bit of a noisy little bugger, which I didn't expect actually, but that's possibly due to a kilowatt motor rattling away in an aluminium can which is bound to create sufficient reverb to top the charts in what is increasingly laughably referred to as the music industry! I don't care, it's attached to a compound mitre saw so once I've got my earphones in and my earmuffs on all I hear is the soothing melodies of Death Metal (Yes I'm aware of the irony of using a mitre saw whilst listening to "Die screaming with sharp things in your head).Anyway enough ranting from me, why haven't you bought the hoover yet... buy the damned hoover!!! It's £30 for gods sake, you can't buy your family an ice cream each for £30 these days!

Can't beat this for the money
I was a little hesitant, reading some previous reviews. However, once delivered I could see it was well made and not at all flimsy. Made with a metal body, the top, which houses the motor and filter, is formed from strong plastic.Take off the lid, by simply releasing the two metal clips on the side, and you're holding the motor. Flip it upside down and you can see and easily release the large HEPA filter. This is the one that filters the smallest particles, and can be washed. You can then see the larger cloth filter, which covers the base entirely. It has a rubber seal around the whole of the bottom of the vac, which is where the debris is sucked into. If you don't use a bag (none where supplied with mine), you will have to frequently remove this and shake outside. This does a good job of collecting the larger pieces of debris before they hit the HEPA filter.Remove the cloth filter and this is where the largest pieces of rubbish are. It's a large space, so you won't have to empty it too often. However, I decided to buy bags (search the bay for RL095 bags) and they just clip on and sit in this void.I found suction to be excellent, picking up the largest pieces of charcoal. However, it may block. If it does, all you need to do is unscrew either of two plastic twist locks on either end of the hose and knock the bits out. Really simple. On a bit of a negative, when it comes to cleaning the woodburner out, the hose can be a little inflexible, and you could do with being able to use the nozzle attachment directly on the hose, instead of the metal extension. A small issue only, and easily manageable. All in all, a good cleaner for ash, sawdust or other debris you don't want to mess your expensive household cleaners up with.

Does what it says
After my old ash vac packed in, i decided to go for this one - its quite similar to my previous one but a little smaller, I was confused with the reviews on here with some stating it needed bags and some saying it didnt !The bottom line with this item is that it comes with a large re-usable conical mesh (Material) filter, it fits between the top motor bit an the bottom waste collection part. - you need to make sure its fitted along the top of the ash bin and sealed all round when you take it out, this filter is washable. On first use the cleaner works fine, and collected the ash and debris perfectly, the next part was not as much fun as it needs eptying and the conical filter needs cleaning, this i achieved with a dry paint brush - so plan 2 was to use the bags i had purchased at the same time, the bag slots over the inlet hose inside and the conical filter sits on top of it, this resulted in a lot less mess as the ash is Kept in the bag, altho i think you will get thru a lot of bags! - the bottom line is that it works with and without the bags - but more mess to deal with without, I did read on here that VAX Bags fit it ? - I will resort to my normal cleaning method which is to remove the big stuff and tray - then use the Vac to clean up all the extra stuff, perhaps this defeats the object of having an ash vac, but suits my purpose .
