Mobile Meditator Meditation Mat

If you've tried searching for a travel meditation mat, you've already discovered there are few practical options out there. Lots of what's listed for travel really just means to and from your local studio by car--for air travel, forget it. It's a niche market, I'm sure, which is why there are so few choices.Let me start by saying I have the inflatable Mobile Meditator cushion as well,and it too is a decent product in spite of its flaws. Unfortunately my back no longer tolerates Burmese style with a zafu, so I've switched to a seiza bench, and needed a simple mat to go under that. Using a cut down regular yoga mat proved too annoyingly sticky for this, especially on hot days.Enter the Mobile Meditator mat. Size: excellent, though truthfully it could be even smaller. Surface: microfiber, not sticky like a traditional yoga mat. Extremely thin, which makes it much more portable (if less comfortable) than say a travel sized zabuton.There are a few things that keep this from being a five star product for me. First, it really is thin, to the point of providing pretty much zero cushioning. It doesn't fold much flatter than your average yoga mat cut to the same size, and it also isn't lighter than that by more than a couple of ounces according to my scale, so the only advantage it holds there is that it's covered in cloth.Which brings us to the microfiber. Microfiber terry has two characteristics that can drive you crazy: it catches on your skin if your hands or feet are the least bit dry, and it equally snags every bit of debris within range. In some cases, that debris can be near impossible to remove as it tangles into the terry nap. Add in the light colors, and there's a real concern about how grungy this mat can get over time. Sueded microfiber with no nap (microfiber chamois), in darker colors, would have been a far better choice for a mat whose sole purpose is to give you a clean spot to sit in dubious places as you travel.One other note: as of this posting, the full description says a carry strap is included. Either this is not correct, or mine was missing. As there isn't one pictured, I wouldn't plan on one being provided.In the end, I'd rate this one 3.5 stars. It IS fairly light and should pack easily into a carry on suitcase, which is the main point of a travel mat.

This offers almost no cushioning.

The mat is nice although when I bought it I thought the cushion was included. It's not. Had I known that I probably would not have bought it. I thought I was getting a great deal. Afterward I found out that I didn't read the fine print.

It's nice. You can also sit on a folded yoga mat or any mat at all for much cheaper.

I thought this may included the cushion. I have plenty of mats! Not worth the cost.

Very nice for travel. I use it for Pilates with a regular sized mat. Sometimes I want more thickness when kneeling but don't need or want to carry another full sized mat. This works great. It is thin though so maybe it won't be thick enough for some. Works for me.

Just revived mat tonight, was excited to open and set up meditation area created in my apartment. When I opened the package, my "new mat" was dirty and grimy. Then to top it off when I took plastic wrap all the way off, the other end had leaves and more dirt! Very disappointed.

I travel quite a bit and need a clean and comfortable place to sit because I never know what the floors or ground will be like when I travel. The mat is soft, even on concrete - plus I now have a clean space to meditate.
