So sad, it did not work out of the box, so I returned it
UPDATE: At least the company contacted me and apologized, wanting to make sure I got a full refund. Unlike many merchants on Amazon they do seem to be responsive!I really wanted this to work out, since it was a great price and had some good reviews, but it also had some bad reviews. The first inclining that something was not right was the instruction manual covered how to install the battery, but that's about it. The hood setup looks cool, but was confusing to setup and there were no instructions on it. There was one gear-like piece that I could not figure out how it went or what it did, so I just left it off. However the fatal flaw was that it seemed to have a problem with the memory card. It indicated that it successfully recorded some test videos, but then when I went to view the memory card it was totally blank (yes I formatted the card per the instructions). I tired 3 more cards and the same thing happened in 2 of them, with the third one getting a memory card error. (The card works just fine everywhere else). There were some other funky things about it as well, such as the enclosed lens cover would not work with the lens hood on. The last thing I would want to be doing is spending time removing the hood just so I could place the lens cover on. Also, assuming you are using the handle grip with your right hand, its almost impossible to reach the record/stop button on the far right. Someone did not think this through.

The Optical zoom not as telephoto as I would have liked.
The optical zoom works as advertised, but since the camera starts off with a fairly wide view angle, the 10X optical zoom does not give you much telephoto capability. However, the 5K image quality is so good that in the 5K mode, the 16X Digital zoom on top of the optical zoom is very useable up to about 8X. But at lower resolutions, the quality of the digial zoom degradates much sooner. It does record audio in 2-channel stereo which its 4K predecessor only recorded in 1-channel mono. The large lens hood supplied with the camera does not fit. It is the same lens hood as for the 4K version, but will not adapt to the different style Zoom lens used on this 5K unit. Big oversight on the part of the seller. It comes with two batteries which are the same size/voltage as the 4K camera but does not come with an external charger as the 4K does. You have to charge the battery while on the camera with the supplied charging cord. This makes it impossible to charge the second battery while recording with the first battery. Fortunately, since I own 2 of the 4K camera systems, their batteries and external chargers are totally interchangable.I do have an ongoing problem with all of these 4K, 5K & 8K similar camcorder type cameras in that they all format their SD cards in exFAT which splits up the recorded video files into 3.72GB each which at 5K resolution provides only a few minutes of video per file. When played back on the camcorder, all files playback seamlessly. However, when importing into any video editing software, you have to stitch together the multiple files, which sometimes causes sync problems if combining your final video with multiple camera files, as I do.Don't know why they can't change the firmware in the menu software to allow choosing formatting in FAT 32, exFAT or NTFS, which would allow writing unlimited length uninterrupted files.Basically, for the money charged, it is a good deal. Dropped to 4 stars because of the lens hood issue and no external battery charger as provided standard with the less expensive 4K model. But the camera itself performes very well, so far.

Good for its price level
We got this as a next step up from an iPhone to shoot short YouTube videos at a little higher res and we're satisfied with it for that purpose. We haven't really used the zoom feature as we just want to be able to have enough res to zoom in in post, so we simply shoot at top resolution and then scale up while editing.Obviously this is a "starter camera" rather than a professional one, but I'm impressed with how good the color management is for the price point. I'm doing much less work on color grading/correction on indoor shots than I did with iPhone footage even though I'm using the exact same light. The image is less "flat" than iPhone footage. And this is out of the box; there are lots of settings you can fiddle with to optimize your results.Because it's MP4, file sizes are still manageable so I can export a 10-minute piece of content, with effects, in about 5 minutes, with no need for proxies. Premiere often wants proxies, but it handled these files just fine.Another reviewer here complained that "you have to buy a memory card to use this camera" but I think they must be unfamiliar with digital cameras, because they *all* require a memory card, that's just basic. We got a 256GB one quite cheaply and after several hours of shooting had only filled up a fraction of the card with the MP4 format files this camera creates, so that doesn't add a significant cost to ownership. All in all I'd say this is our "next step" camera than our lifetime one, but that's fine. For a very low cost, we can expand our content without embarrassment and build our skill set to be ready for more advanced shooting at the next equipment upgrade. We're glad we got it and will make the most of its capabilities.

Product seems good on arrival.
Product should take care of what I want to do. Controls are easy. Time will tell how the playback is. I use it to do a variety of things. The only fault is when filing the warranty I get error. I presented all the information as asked. To no avail. I hope the camcorder works for a long time without warranty issues. The warranty states that it will honor products licensed by parent company or Amazon for resell. Stated as being a lifetime warranty on card furnished with package. Hope I never need the warranty. Amazon delivered as usual. Very good delivery as promised.
