Great resource
I bought this for myself as I'm a bit of a tiger mom, I often feel let down by the school system so I like to be able to encourage my kids at home and help them stay on track and stay motivated. This is a useful book for that, I'm not a teacher, but I like math, my children don't think the same as me, so this was really interesting to read. I have a son on the spectrum and this did address some examples that are important to those children such as math applied to real-world examples, spot on - I often find myself relating math and other subjects back to the real world. There is lots of useful info, tips and examples in the book, I personally think it could do with more steps on how to deliver some of the strategies, but that's me being lazy - perhaps there is room for another companion book :)

A Worthwhile Purchase for Helping Your Child With Math
I found 11 Effective Strategies for Teaching Math to Students Who Have Given Up on Learning to be a very useful tool for any parent that is struggling to keep their child engaged in Math at home. There is lots of great information detailed in this book to assist. I bought it for my 14-year-old daughter who struggles with math and comes home needing clarification from me. I found Chapter 8: Using the Right Math Language to be the most beneficial in my case. This chapter provided a nice overview for me with algebraic terms such as inequalities, functions, polynomials, etc. If you are a parent and you can't remember linear regression and how to determine the slope and intercept, I highly recommend you get this book.

Effective
This book really impressed me with its goal of getting students interested in math. My perspective has always been that students can generally learn anything they are passionate about, and this book helps encourage students to want to learn. It covers a large range of different methods to encourage learning.

From building a warm classroom community 🤗 to using 21 cool manipulatives 🎲, this book's got you covered. Love the real-world math approach 🌍 and the special nod to students on the spectrum. A tad more step-by-step would've been 🍒 on top! All in all, a math lifesaver for both classroom and home. 📚✨🚀

Basic teaching
This book encompasses basic teaching methodology and a few good games and tips. It doesn't come close to Denise Gaskins' books but it has a few things that a teacher who hasn't been taught to teach math to struggling learners could apply. As an educator, I found it to help very simplistic with nothing truly groundbreaking nor super effective. The organization of it seemed designed for a low level reader and not a teacher despite its tone being addressed to educators.

Finally a math teacher who gets it
What a great book. In simple, step by step terms, teachers have a blueprint to make math exciting and fun to kids again. I wish they were using this in Eagle River Alaska. What a difference it would make for both the students and the teachers.

Excellent Summer Read!
As an Inclusion/Elementary Sped teacher, this book has some fantastic ideas about the overall approach to teaching math/working with students to overcome their anxiety about math--which is relatable to me, even as an adult who is not a big fan of math! Be sure to read about The Mistake Game!! 10/10, definitely recommend for some inspiration about positive approaches to math instruction!

Great practical book
I found this book very effective because it puts together what I read in different several books across my studies. It is a practical and exhaustive guide to keep always on your teacher desk to remind you the strategy that you want to practice. It has been written in an easy and useful way for improving my skills and not overwhelming my mind. Very happy about this purchase!

Not What I Expected
This is book is excellently researched and well written, by an author with a wealth of experience. The principles outlined are extremely useful but I had expected more practical examples that were subject based, for example: here's an engaging way to teach probability. A great book but it didn't scratch where I itch!

Mainly for school teachers
I ordered it for so that I can teach my son and get his interest in maths, but most of the things are for school teachers.
