Sounds great!
Very well made little device that sounds really great. Drives my ATH-M50x headphones easily.

Great little DAC for the price. (Needs better software, tho)
I had initially wanted to purchase the original UA1 because of the legendary ES9218 DAC chip in it, which I had become acquainted with in my LG G7 Thinq phone (that which I had to replace because of a swollen battery and soon to be out-of-support software) BUT this unit has the newer ES9219C AND a fully replaceable pigtail cable - all for the same MSRP. BONUS! And, yes, you can plug any garden variety USB-C cable into it if you just need something longer. It's a great sounding little unit with plenty of power output to drive all but the highest impedance headphones and IEMs. It requires little, if any, equalization to get almost anything you hook up to it to sound great. You can also enjoy music for hours on end without fatiguing your cochleas because it doesn't introduce excess noise or harshness as it decodes / amplifies the audio stream. Very sleek, compact and solid aluminum shell on it, too. Overall, very no-nonsense.When it comes to software, I had to dock it a star, unfortunately. Works fairly well with either Android or Windows devices once you get past the slightly twitchy software / drivers. The recommended Edict music player that's required to access advanced functionality on Android devices is adequate but somewhat underwhelming. The "Shanling USB Audio Device Control Panel" driver UI for Windows looks extremely dated, doesn't have built-in EQ of any kind and is kind of finicky, too. (AND you definitely should go to the MFR website to get the newest driver which is currently not available on Windows Update servers) It doesn't play all that well with audio enhancers like DTS or Dolby, either (they sorta work but that's about the extent of it). Also, if MQA support is a must-have, you'll need to look elsewhere because, odds are, Shanling might never get around to upgrading the firmware to make MQA decoding on this unit possible: at the very least, don't hold your breath.
