Great question! As every block is different in the way the mushrooms colonize, I can’t say which side is lighter or darker. You can choose any side you wish to place back into the box as long as the X you cut in the block is exposed so it gets proper air exchange and moisture from misting! I hope this helps! Hey Jon! So if you take a look at the back of the instruction pamphlet, you're gonna see the section that says "Bonus Crop". In case you no longer have your instruction pamphlet, here are the instructions in simplest terms without images: We recommend if the mycelium around the original X incision seems to be dried and crusted, simply tape over it and flip your mycelium block and start over on the back side of your block. Then you will start from step 1 again, just like when you first got your kit. Cut an X, soak your substrate, and mist regularly. You should be able to get a couple more fruits in just make sure they get another round of soaking in! After their first fruit, they are probably pretty dried out.
