So close to perfection for the price
I own a number of more expensive hidef players so I bought this as something cheap for commuting and not have to worry about it getting lost or stolen. Here are my pros and cons - I'll start with the bad news first…Cons:- The user-interface needs refining and simplifying. It's by no means the worst I've used but it just needs to be tightened up. Visually it's absolutely fine, but the menu system is needlessly convoluted- By far my biggest criticism is that, even when you number tracks correctly, they rarely play in the correct order once copied, unless you access the music from the Artist list (and if you have lots of artists on the TF card it's quite a chore to scroll through them every time). It shouldn't be a major undertaking to fix this- No gapless playback. There's a significant pause between songs that spoil albums such as Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers and Dark Side of the Moon. Thanks to the free software, Audacity, it's an extremely easy and quick job to combine multiple FLAC files into a single one. That does mean that you can't skip to another track (but, this is a plus to me as I enjoy listening to albums in their entirety- the buttons on both sides of the unit are awkwardly placed on the bottom half of the unit which makes it really difficult to operate single-handedly. If there is an easy fix to move them towards the top, it would improve the ergonomics 100%Pros:- It's a beautifully designed unit with a classy red and black display- USB-C charging and really good battery life- They can power more demanding headphones wonderfully. I treated myself to a pair. of HiFiMan Sundara planar magnetic headphones which normally require a dedicated headphone amp to get the best out of them. I'm amazed at how well this drives the Sundaras. With the volume at 60% it's plenty loud enough to make the headphones shine. I'm extremely impressed.- the sound quality is fantastic and is ridiculously good for the price. I don't tend to play around with EQ, so I can't comment on how effective that is- it plays a whole host of hi-def formats without any fuss- when you copy a large number of files to the TF card the initial update can take a while (by no means the slowest) but, as long as you don't add or delete any files it boots up incredibly fast. I have a far pricier Cowon Plenue D player and the Oilsky absolutely smokes it for start-up time- The build quality. This feels FAR more expensive and luxury than the price would suggest. Metal and glass, with solid buttons and scroll wheel make it look and feel more like ann Astell & Kern player than a budget one.- the price. It staggers me that people complain about how expensive sub-£50 music players are. They obviously don't remember the days of Walkmen or ipods. The fact that this is under £40 blows my mindMeh:- It doesn't support bluetooth. Good. Cheap (and even more expensive) players have very flaky bluetooth connection. Long live wired headphones, with their superior sound quality and absolutely no dropouts!- You can't watch videos or read ebooks on it. Have you played videos or tried to read ebooks on really small devices?!? It's awful. Kudos to Oilsky for keeping it beautifully simple- you can only catalogue 4000 songs. If I played mp3 then it might be an issue, but FLAC or WAV files are much larger, so I very much doubt this would be an issue anytime soon.To summarise:If you're looking for an ipod replacement, that allows you to listen to music, watch films, take photos, browse the internet, then avoid this at all costs. However, if you just want to listen to music with brilliant clarity that an iphone could only dream of, then this is a must buy. In a noisey world where one's entire existence (and sometimes personality) is stored on one single device, the Oilsky lets you appreciate music without any distraction. It's a wonderful experience and highly commendable. It's the musical equivalent of a Leica camera.I really hope that Oilsky can iron out the minor issues, but retain its current form, because this would hands down be a solid 5 stars (at present I give it a solid 4.5 stars). For the price, I'm going to stock up on another unit. I initially bought this with low expectations, but I am seriously impressed and a bit smitten!

Serious value for money
The sound quality is easily as good as my Sony Walkman NW 55 and you don't get nagged to turn the volume down :) Ok, there are a few more clicks on the interface to get something to play, but for £35 I'm not complaining. Using it with Austrian Audio Hi X15 wired headphones. Well pleased.

Un-fussy, basic functionality, great sound
Pros..Old skool, un-fussy and basic.Great sound quality.Plays anything you can throw at it.Looks awesome.Super price.Battery lasts ages.USB-CRemovable and upgradeable storage.Real buttons (not some awful touch screen)Cons...No gapless playback (join the tracks with Audacity).Playlist functionality is terrible (literally terrible, don't even bother).USB connection can be temperamental (pop out the memory card and use a card reader instead).Tracks are not always sorted correctly (use a tool like fatsort for Windows to sort the files after adding). No Bluetooth.Quirky interface. If you want a player with a polished interface and no quirks then look elsewhere. If you absolutely need gapless playback then look elsewhere. If you want total control over your playlist then look elsewhere.But...If you want a cheap player with great sound and are happy to work along with the few issues then definitely grab this. I've really enjoyed mine and only occasionally get annoyed by not having gapless playback. It's really refreshing to have quality sound and a simple, un-fussy dedicated device to plug in and chill out. Leave your crummy phone behind and go with the Oilsky.

I wouldn't buy this again
The sound quality isn't too bad at all but......The user interface is clunky and extremely slow. It's not possible to sort or re-order songs. Folders are listed in the order you copy them across from your PC or laptop and not alphabetically. It's not possible to rename playlists nor can you re-order the songs in them. The item is heavy for it's size and I suspect it contains a hard drive and not an SSD.I'll probably trade this item in for something more user friendly.

I brought this as an Xmas present for the other half, as she loves listening to podcasts while walking the dog.She stated the battery lasts ages, through 2 hours use every day. Only charges twice a week. Easy navigation and a ice sounding speaker.
